Meeting with my birthson
Here's the report on my meeting with John yesterday. It went very well. We met at a burger place. I was about 20 minutes early, so met him when he pulled up. I got a hug even before he got out of the car. We spent about 30 minutes at the burger place. He asked me a lot of questions about his biological father, who died when he was 10 years old. I also found out that his brother who is 14 months younger than John is not adopted like him. His adoptive mom got pregnant 5 months after they adopted John. I had always thought they were both adopted.

We then went to a small park near the Galleria and took some photos. Here they are:

It was a really great meeting - I didn't cry or faint or anything and we both were really comfortable with each other from the very start. We spent a little over an hour together, which was fine for the first meeting. I do think he will want to see me again. He said his adoptive parents want to meet me as well. So maybe the next trip we will all meet together.

5. How exciting!
You just look happy enough to burst in that first shot. And who can blame with you with suh a good-looking and obviously nice son? I'm so glad his parents are supportive of his meeting you. Much healthier for all involved.

I do have a question, though. What's up with his wheelchair?

6. He was in a ski accident 5 years ago
He has a spinal cord injury at T4. He's really done great since then, though, and is very active and independent.

10. He looks like he's adjusted well.
Not a trace of self-pity on that face. I saw you say below that he wheels in marathons. That is super-cool. It seems as though you brought a truly healthy person onto the planet. Good job!

7. He's lovely
So what was he like? Great sense of humor? Is he bright, does he laugh easy? Where do his interests lie?
How exciting yet nerve wracking thing must of been for the both of you!

8. He is a great guy
He's got a very positive attitude. Very smart, easy to talk to. He keeps himself really busy with various volunteering projects and wheeling in marathons. He loves his job and seems to be doing really well in it. It was actually a much more laid-back meeting than I expected. It was exciting, yes, but I was not very nervous at all, and he didn't seem nervous either.

11. What an incredible "kodak moment"
And I don't mean that in a negative way. Knowing the story behind these ... quite incredible. How exciting for you that you were able to have this experience. Hope it continues for you and grows into a wonderful relationship.
:hi:
