From a Lounge person:
I am so disappointed that I didn't even get to SEE the November contest, much less vote in it! I looked forward to those posts probably more than any other.

I read somewhere in the forum that supposedly the Lounge was too abusive - I can tell you that I have voted and kicked almost every photo thread that came through there, and I NEVER read anything abusive or disparaging.

I am highly disappointed that we aren't going to have the photo contests anymore. I really love them and am consistently impressed with the extremely high level of technical and artistic skill seen in them.

There is no chance you'll cross-post in the Lounge??

1. It wasn't cross-posted?

The seasonal one was.

Since I was guilty of making a few comments in this last contest you can paint my kettle black.
:silly:

But... I've read a few nasty comments made in the Lounge. Blanket statements on the poor "quality" of all the photos in the contest. The Copy Cat Wars were a little "disparaging".

Personally I don't care where they are held. I voted for the 9/11 Forum. :P GD is nice cause' it generates a ton more votes in a short period of time.

Edit? :eyes:

On Edit:Edit: My own personal observations... in GD there is "outside" influence in keeping the threads kicked. In the Lounge the majority of "kicking" is done by people associated with the photogroup, or the host/ess. IMO

2. I have never read a blanket statement like the one you describe.
Can you point me toward an example please?

3. Nope. You'll just have to trust me

Since I have to push buttons and stuff (click on link in my sig) I follow the contests fairly closely to gather the voting info. Soooo... I read the comments. Have only been a few that I didn't gather the info until much later... but I still read the comments.

Don't have the time to search all the threads. One comment... (off memory).. "these photos are only fair at best" That was a raw fish thing. :P And I don't want to bring up the "Copy Cat Wars" again. That was sorta kinda a lounge breaking event.

Not important. Hopefully in the future the host/ess will do cross-posting in the lounge but it's time consuming to keep mutiple threads going.
:hi:

4. Hi Janesez
I am the one who didn't cross post the contest.

You're right the Lounge has been very good to us and a very minute proportion was ever abusive.

It's just that the lounge does - from my experience anyway, get into it with posters more than the other rooms on DU. It seemed like a better idea to just move the contest to GD which is well moderated. The lounge seems slack on personal attacks in my opinion.

We could have cross posted and perhaps we will in the future. Had I known you liked seeing the contest, I would have done it just since you requested.

Now it's up to the thrower of each contest to cross post them.

5. How about this?
Just a "reminder" post in the Lounge - "The ____ Photo Contest threads are now up in GD!" and then we can go over there and see them and vote. I go to GD daily, but not all day like I am in the Lounge, so I just missed them.

Even just a little reminder thread that could be kicked would be really great. Thanks for your consideration! :hi:

7. I think the other good thing about the contests being in GD
Is that the threads are able to make the greatest page. Hopefully, there will be a notice posted in the Lounge for those who enjoy the contests, which I believe to be the majority of people.
