Poll question: January Theme Poll
You will have until January 1, 2007 to vote. In the event of a tie, I get to choose the theme. (New rule) :)

A few explanations:
Yin/yang = opposites
Personal possessions = things of Rob's (or your) desk (where is Rob, anyway?)

Themes such as Surrealism, Portentous/Ominus, Time or Time Passing should be in-camera photos--no fancy PhotoShopping.

Here is the schedule. (Thanks for the help on that.)
Poll: Dec 25 to Jan 1
Submissions: Jan 2 to Jan 15 (or 30 submissions)
Preliminaries: Jan 6 to Jan 20
Finals: Jan 21 to Jan 26

Have Fun!

8. A question...
You say submissions from 1/2 until 1/15, but shouldn't we have a little time to go out and take pictures before the submissions thread is put up, say maybe from 1/2 until 1/12 or so, and then two or three days for people to post. Maybe that's what you meant.

9. I agree...!
Opening submissions immediately would pretty much restrict people to images of whatever topic is chosen that they have in their files already. And, based on previous contests, keeping the submission period open for almost two weeks would do little good, since the vast majority of entries are received within the first two or three days (and if you don't have thirty entries by the third day, you're unlikely to get them at all, IMHO).

One of the guiding principles of these competitions is that there is always a two-week or so period from the choosing of the topic to the opening of submissions. Maybe if the topic poll is kept open less that seven days, and submissions are opened when Blue suggests, we'd haVe that window to go out and shoot.

10. My guess, it was just an oversight by NV...
but I guess we'll have to wait for her to check back in here.

11. Well, of course that was what I meant.
Now, who was helping me with the timing? :hide:

Submissions: Jan 12 to Jan 15 or 30 submissions.

That meet with everyone's approval?

12. Sounds good to me.
And you are doing fine. There was a time when the contest host decided what the theme was for the month they hosted. So if you end up being the tie breaker or decide on something completely different it would not be out of the norm. Choosing the theme was what I considered the real prize. Running the contest seemed more like a punishment.O8) I will add, the shortest time frame for submissions and voting is easier on the host than longer ones.

It's hard to keep things straight with all this Christmas and stuff going on. Now we can get back to normal.

18. Some more yin/yang ideas
cat/dog
cat/bird
cat/mouse
so cat lovers/haters can keep these in mind.

Or could do something like this with a furry, feathered, scaled or human being. An old pic I dug out of Pixel and Gizmo when they were babies.

19. I withdraw my vote for yin/yang based on this photo.
No way I could ever win against such a cute and creative interpretation! :hi:

23. Thank you, though I owe it all
to my first two ferrets. That is how the slept all the time the first few weeks. Until they got big enough to not be able to come through the cage bars. Then I learned they were fine running around as long as I watched where I slept. It has been down hill ever since for all the rest of us as the ferrets have taken over the second floor. The pic was also taken with my very fix digital camera, a Coolpix 800.

24. Thank you but it isn't
so navel when you live with ferrets. They tend to sleep curled and catch them like that a lot. Just now they are usually in a sleep sack, under my blankets or in any of a hundred hidey holes. Though I will have to try to catch one of my sables and Mysti (white) doing it sometime.
