DU Photography Contest Sign Up sheet.

Just for fun, and to create some awareness for the Photo Group here at DU, I thought Christmas Eve we could hold a photography contest up in the Lounge.

There's so much talent here, but I sense not enough people check out the groups often enough to see it.

I'll probably post a poll, including your pictures in the Lounge sometime between 3:00 and 4:00 P.M. EST and keep it running until around 1 A.M. or longer, if enough people are interested (and to give those on the West Coast a chance to participate--I'm on the east but I'll be up all night.)

Once again this is all for fun, no prizes and no winners or losers.
(Tho the winner will get a big pat on the back and a special annoucement in a sepertate thread.)

The rules are open-ended. Anybody who wants to participate, simply post your photo here in this thread, with a title if you have one. That way I know what photo you want entered and so I can resize them all so they'll be about the same size.

The only rule I see fit is one entree per user name.

If any body wants to enter, but doesn't have the time, just let me know and I'll enter you myself. Since I'll be monitoring the contests, I'll probably disqualify myself from entering, unless we don't have enough entries, then I'll get all uber-vain on you and enter my now infamous self portrait. ;-)

Since it will be posted as a poll, the contest will be limited to the first ten entries.

I'll also post an advertisement in GD soon and try and keep it kicked to get a little more support and gather some more interest.

Once again this is all for fun and encouragement for the Photo Board.

I took this a few years ago in Parral, Mexico when I was down there writing a story about Pancho Villa. Parral was where Pancho Villa was assassinated.

I like this picture because it is so rare that one gets an intimate, totally unstaged glimpse into the barbie (and friends) world.

Also it was the first picture I took when I bought my Nikon D1. Hah! Those were the days.... *shakes head*

Actually there's a cropped version up in the gallery now, I posted it so much because i was hoping to solicit a few opinions about it. So far I've gotten nothing but positive feed back.:thumbsup:

It was one of my first attempts at a self portrait so it meant a lot to me.:hi:

31. It has great tonal range.

It really surprises me that it is a pretty much "as shot" digital image. Not that I doubt digital's ability to do great b/w, but I don't usually see it look that good right off the camera.

Just shows how much digital is really exactly like film; sometimes images look perfect as shot, and sometimes they need manipulation to look their best. It's all just an image recording device either way.

32. It was also my first attempt at using B&W

on my digital camera...I did about thirteen shots that day, this one just sort of happened, It took me a while to set up the focus but once I got it, the rest was a mater of just cropping the image.

Most of myexperience until recently has been film based so I too was surprised by the results.

The Photo Group is relatively small now, but if things pick-up, maybe we can do another one of these contests some day. I know there's a few other talented people who missed the sign-up :hi: who have posted a lot of great stuff around here...just look around...

Allowing for 20, 30, 40 or more entries.

Take the top 2-3 winners in each poll, and post in a final poll of 5-10 entires...sort of like runoff elections.:shrug:

57. I think there is a lot of sense to the mx polls thing.

Broken into subject. That way you might even go out and shoot a new type of photograph, just to enter...
You know, Portrait, Landscape, Still life, Digital Enhanced Editing, best political gathering shot, best photo of Democratic Politician, etc.

Or maybe into camera class as well. Film N Digital P&S,Advanced P&S >4mp, DSLR, etc.

I think maybe a seasonal contest, winter spring summer fall...


Or, even better, can we get a special dispensation from the software for bigger polls?

What about setting a size limit? Would 800X800 limit be too much?
Or should it be a max Kb download size instead?

I use a very old Canon A-1 with 70-150mm lens and Tmax 100 BW film. I don't remember any other details.
