Happy 2008, everyone
A picturesque snowfall overnight. Zen and I spent the day out and about.

Here's to a great year for everybody, and let's hope November is the best part of it.

1. Beautiful!
I do miss snow and try to get up to the Sierras at least once in the winter. I know it's a pain to drive in and shovel and keep warm and all those other reasons I left Chicago 39 years ago, but still... It is beautiful.

3. I'm liking it more now that I do most of my work from home
And can stay inside 23 1/2 hours out of 24, but the pup really enjoys himself when there's fresh snow on the ground. But for him, I'd be as housebound as Boo Radley, at least until March.

2. Lucky you...
I spent the day in the kitchen -- AGAIN! The ribs and black-eyed peas were delicious, but my day is shot. Maybe tomorrow I can get out and wander the neighborhood.

Happy 2008 to you, too, JeffR.

4. Dammit I would kill for some black-eyed peas right now
I do have some grits in the cupboard, at least. Black-eyed peas can be had here, but my Brooklyn-born spouse doesn't like them!

Interesting factoid: Toronto is said to be the most multicultural city in the world, but you can die here trying to find a decent hushpuppy. I can choose from 20 brands of basmati rice in nearby Little India, but finding acceptable cornbread is next to impossible unless we make it ourselves at home. And this in a city with a very large American expatriate population. Crazy iceheads!

OTOH, the universal healthcare is attractive, and though I haven't touched red meat in 20 years, Montreal smoked meat is pretty-much-straight-up-to-die-for, as I remember.

No day devoted to the preparation of such wondrous delicacies is "shot". But get out there tomorrow and bring us back something wonderful, as you always do.

5. Honestly, I'm not real crazy about black-eyed peas myself
but it's a long tradition in both our families, so I make them every year. I prefer the fresh ones, which we can get here this time of year, and if they're done up with bacon, onions and hot sauce, they're not too bad.

7. Beautiful shots, JeffR...
And a very, very, Happy New Year to you, too!

Don't know about the black-eyed peas (though I do love 'em) but tonight we are having "breakfast": Steaks, over-easy eggs, hashbrowns, toast, juice.

I'm headed fer the table now... :9

I really like the first one! But all of these snow threads are making me so cold!

12. I believe those shots were taken in Toronto...

...so I don't think there's any "patriotic" intent.

Although I must say I like the effect of photographing Christmas lights in daylight.
