A couple of flower photos I took today
Edited on Sat May-28-05 08:57 PM by RagingInMiami
EDIT: These are the first flower shots I've ever taken. For some reason, I just never took any flower shots.

4. Fast learner, aren't you!
Once you get that close there are a whole lot of possible images, and you've found some very nice ones.

(as underestood by the camera settings - the "auto" focus and exposure) and let the subject go soft. And look at how the background affects the whole. Below are three different approaches to the same flower:

8. What lens did you use? Macro-Zoom?
You got right up close and I was just wondering how you got it so close and focused?

9. NikonAF 60mm Macro f/2.8
Edited on Mon May-30-05 11:36 PM by ConsAreLiars
You can get about 2" away and a 1X1.5 inch subject will fill the frame.

When the aperture is wide open the range of distances that are in focus is very narrow, so objects closer and further away become blurred.

With a macro telephoto lens you would see the same effect, but you could work at a greater distance, with a narrower slice of the backgound being included.

(edit to specify "macro" telephoto)

10. I used a Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro lens
It is a telephoto/macro lens that is well worth the $469 I paid for it.

11. Oops (I replied to a question addressed to you)
The 100mm length seems a lot more suitable for nature macros. The 60mm puts me too close - fine for jewelry or such, which doesn't care if you get too close and where the light source is controllable.
