Storm Pictures from Chicago Area (6 pics inside)
We get the most amazing storms up here (N.IL Burbs). I caught a couple last month, and just got a chance to upload them.

Photo #1 - Storm moving in.

Photo #2 - Clouds tightening and rolling under

Photo #3 - Straight on view overlooking the sky across the street (quite ominous - isn't it?)

Photo #4 - From up the street at my son's school. The storm is now here, and you can see the sunlight shining just beyond the ridge. The photos were taken at least 4 hours before it typically gets dark here.

And these are from last year, and the year prior.

Two years ago (Man in the clouds) - My favorite

1. Great shots.
Midwest storms, despite their sometime destructiveness, have an awesome beauty to them.
Here's a series of shots from west of you in the Quad Cites that I took in June during the Iowa flooding when storms like this were an almost daily occurrence.

East end of a northbound wall cloud.

Here comes the hail.

Storm passes.

Here comes the sun.

2. Those clouds are spectacular
Very dramatic formations. We have a storm blowing in right now. It was so hot and muggy this morning, my fire alarm went off at 3am. I'm not very impressed by my day so far.

6. I grew up in Central IL - so it took me a while to get used to feeling safe(r)
when I see clouds like that up here. We're in the far west burbs, and tornado activity usually moves around the "bubble". Typically going south and around, but sometimes north of us and around (like it did recently).

We do get very high winds though, and it's not uncommon to see roof shingles or siding ripped off of houses that aren't constructed properly.

5. I used to live there

and I remember the spectacular storms. Thunder, lightening, winds. The next morning there would be downed power lines, broken branches and dead birds littering the streets.

The roof of my Mom's house blew off in one of those storms.

One could almost believe the end of the world was coming.

Great pictures. I wish I'd had a camera to document some of the ones I witnessed.
