2. This is our second little snowfall.
We had a couple inches last week, then a Chinook wind -- over 100 mph in some parts of town -- which blew off most of the remaining leaves (and some people's roofs) -- now another four inches or so today. I think we're in for a rough ride this winter.

3. when I was "up north"
Edited on Sun Oct-12-08 09:37 PM by mth44sc
I used to get so damned depressed at the first signs of winter...

There was nothing about winter (maybe snow on Christmas) that I could stand.

On edit:

But then as I recall - winter does have a beauty all its own. Your photo is certainly a hint of that.

(I confess - its easier to see that beauty from "down here".) :-)

6. 70cm up in the Austrian Alps already!
Made reservations yesterday to ski over Xmas, still out training on the bike, weather will be nice through the week, and then the wet, cold temps kick in. I think this year we are going to see ALOT of snow, even in the valleys.

Now I just have to make it through Dec. 21st, and the days get longer. Ugh. :hi: :hi:

8. As I point out every year at this time...
...at least you've got several months of winter shooting ahead. Down here, if I'm lucky, I may be able to get one last weekend to shoot fall color (haven't had a chance yet), then we're in for a steady diet of rain and blank gray overcast until April. :-(

9. Your most beautiful photo reminds me of my father

A sentimental little story...'when the snow is on the roses'

The late singer Ed Ames sang this song,'when the snow is on the roses' on the Tonight Show--w/Johnny Carson in mid Dec. 1967. I remember staying up and watching it with my father.
My father died on Christmas eve that year and in his pocket was a little piece of paper on which he had written 'when the snow is on the roses.'
On the day he was buried, it snowed. Yes, there were roses at the graveside.

It was just an unusual coincidence.

Here's Elvis singing it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2DwxgolxQI&feature=related

10. How old does it make me...
Edited on Tue Oct-14-08 10:14 AM by regnaD kciN
...that I remember that song?

BTW, "the late singer Ed Ames" is still very much alive, at age 81, and, as I understand it, still involved in work for environmental concerns and Native American rights.

Of course, he'll probably best be remembered for this...
