Dramatic skies
Here are a few of my old photos that I came across. The skies are pretty dramatic.

Sunset from the ferry ride to Okracoke Island. A little bit of lens flare but I still like it.

Sunset on Jockey Ridge. Jockey Ridge is a state park in the Outer Banks where people go to hang glide. The ridge is silhouetted but the sky is sensational.

I like the gulls following the ferry, the wake of the boat, and the colors of the sky.

5. Here's one of my favorites......
Took it from the backyard. I was laying on the ground to get the angle on the fence.

9. I especially like this one!
Nice dynamic composition, with the fence drawing you in from the right and the clouds drawing you in from the left. Great colors too! I'm curious where you live. I'm guessing it's out West somewhere.

I love this one because we don't hardly get them kind of skys in California. This is right out my door after a storm just as the sun was setting.

8. Arizona sunrise

This was taken off my back deck one December. We have sunrises like this a lot in the winter up here in the mountains of AZ. I haven't altered the color in any way, and it was taken with my first crap digital camera, which was only 1 MP. I was pretty impressed with what that very primitive camera could do.

13. This is near Buena Vista, Colorado:
I took it as a tree picture, but when most people see it, they comment on the dramatic clouds.

19. Wow, these are both amazing
The first one is like a fire in the sky. And I like the way the sun reflects off the water in the second photo. And I also liked how you used a tree in the foreground.

30. Good questions!
Edited on Sat Feb-12-05 08:10 AM by Lefty48197
I wish I knew the answers! The date on the photo is correct. I took it up in the Pigeon River Rec. area near Gaylord/Vanderbilt. It MIGHT be Lost Lake. We were on one of our many elk spotting trips last fall. The lake is somewhere north of the ranger station, along the road to one of the northern elk viewing areas. I just saw the lake, pulled over, and got a few great shots. It was late in the evening near sunset. I think the sun might have been to the right, so I would be facing south?

31. Kewl. That's about what I would've guessed even though it's been ...
... over three decades since I was anywhere near there.

It's a beautiful snapshot - good P/R for Mitchigun.

I have to admit to being occasionally blind (or stupid) ((or both)). I was so concentrated on the scene that I TOTALLY overlooked the datestamp. :dunce:

34. Here ya go ... "Daybreak, 1969"

If you don't think daybreak in Vietnam is "dramatic" ya ought to spend a night with the .50 cal, the M70, your M16, and a bunch of claymores ... waiting 'til it's over.
