I'm slowly making my way through them all, so I should have them up on my website sometime next week. I still have to do the captions, which will take a while and a little research, because without the stories, the pictures don't mean much. Each musher has a unique personal story, and then there are the "tales from the trail," which really bring it all home. It's really THE amazing race.

Somebody up in Nome suggested that if CBS wanted to do a REAL "Survivor," they'd send those folks up here to survive on the Iditarod Trail for a month. That jungle stuff is for sissies.

6. They refused to do Survivor here too
They said it would be too challenging in our climate. The contestants would have to wear more than bikinis, poor things :eyes:

2. I hope Redoubt isn't causing you too many problems
That volcano sounds awfully cranky today.

3. It's kind of an annoyance.
A Wasilla DUer posted on a Redoubt thread today that he is STILL in Nome, having also attended the race, and is on standby, not knowing when he'll get out. We just had another eruption a couple of hours ago. These ones today are dropping a little ash on Anchorage so it's kind of smelly and gritty.

I can't imagine how the airport is dealing with this because the eruptions are coming every three or four hours. Then they have to gauge the wind and everything to determine which way the ash is blowing at what levels. The volcano is acting different than it did in 1989-90. That time we had about 30 eruptions over a four-month period. This time we've had almost that many in a week.

Maybe it'll just get it all out of its system and settle down soon. I sure hope so -- I don't want it interfering with my trip to LA for the baby.

7. Hopefully it quietens down fast
It might be a good thing that it's letting off steam in little bits. Hopefully that will prevent the pressure building up too much. I imagine it's a bit nerve wracking though. And the ash/smell sounds unpleasant to deal with. Good for the garden, but not much else. I hope it calms down soon and that you get to LA without any problems.

How exciting to have a new baby in the family. Do you know if the baby is a boy or a girl yet, or is it a surprise?

8. It's a surprise
They wanted to keep it that way - the doctor knows, but Kristina and Riaz don't. :)

10. Surprises are good. Like Christmas, but better.
Redoubt picked a bad time to mess with you. Somehow, I don't see that little volcano stopping you from getting down there one way or another.

9. A great series
I have been following your Iditarod shots, a great collection. What an event! Have you considered putting together a Blurb (or other publisher) book?

11. I'm not sure about legalities.

Iditarod does have an "official" photographer, Jeff Schultz http://www.schultzphoto.com/official-iditarod-pictures.php , who has been the "dude" since the early '80s. I don't know if he has any kind of copyright advantages or not, but if he doesn't, a little book might be fun. I've been really pleased with how these photos are turning out - it's hard to pick the ones to include on my SmugMug site.

I don't know if it's the clean air, the latitude or what up in Nome, but the color has been great, and I haven't had to do much other than crop.
