At the aquarium
We ended up at the aquarium more by luck than judgment, so I was slightly unprepared. No tripod, 200mm lens, hordes of screaming children slamming into my knees (apparently it was spring break or something?). It was fun though and we didn't have time to see even half of it, so now we have to go back. And next time, I will plan better.

At the Aquarium (1/3", f4, ISO1600)

Puffer Fish. Not the greatest pic, but these guys are cute. (1/4", f4, ISO1600)

Clowning around in the Anemones (1/100", f4.5, ISO800)

1. The look great
And it seems better than actually scuba diving (at least for me).

I really love the last one.

Spring break, whew. But sans spring break there could be lots of field trips. Best to go late in the afternoon on school days.

4. It's definitely easier than scuba diving because they do all the work for you
OTOH going to the aquarium doesn't sound as exciting as diving in the Great Barrier Reef or somewhere exotic like that.

It'll probably be busy any time of the day, but I have to go back. There's a bird of prey show at the moment with hawks, eagles, etc. flying around. I really want to see that.

2. Love the clown fish
Going to keep your settings in mind for some photos I'm going to be shooting for a friend's new aquarium business. Fortunately I'll be using a tripod, though.

3. The settings need some tweaking

You might try a bigger aperture, depending on the lighting conditions. That lens of mine only goes down to f4 and some of the tanks were too dark to photograph. Of course, you'll be able to adjust the light so that might not be a problem. I'm sure you know a lot more about these things than I do. And hopefully you won't have small children elbowing you. Although one little boy did say "Move, please!" as he pushed me aside, so I will give him partial credit for politeness. It sounds like a fun project photographing your friend's aquariums and I hope you can share some of the pictures with us. Also, please let me know what settings work best and I will try again next time I'm at the aquarium.

5. I'll be experimenting a lot. The lighting in one of his tanks is
really nice, bright but subtle, and I think that'll give me some room to maneuver. One of the tanks will be empty just to show off how the rocks and gravel can be arranged. For that one, I'll try to bounce a flash and see what happens. I'll be happy if I get anything as nice as the clown fish.:)

6. What fun. Very very nice - the clown fish is a winner for sure.
You're right in there with him.
