Barn Quilts (not my photos, but my next project)
Edited on Sun Dec-13-09 09:36 PM by HarveyDarkey
I've seen hundreds in my travels around the Midwest, but never stopped to take photos.

That's going to change:

1. What a great series that would make!
I've never seen those (I don't get out of CA much). I'd be really interested to learn how this all started. Instead of a brand, there is a quilt pattern.

I really like the 3rd one. The barn is kind of dilapidated but that quilt just glows.

2. someone recently revived these
Based on the old hex diagrams the Pennsylvania Dutch used to paint on their barns to spook evil spirits (don't laugh, it works, LOL).

I think I read that her mother was a quilter.

3. I'm in Iowa

Took a 60 mile trip along one highway yesterday and saw about 20. Was a gray, dreary day & didn't have my camera anyway.

Many had two different quilts (at least the ones parallel to the highway) , one on each end.

4. That is a great idea. Cupolas and weathervanes would also make a great barn series. :^)

5. I've never heard, nor saw
any barn quilts. That would certainly make a great series. I'll definately be on the lookout!

6. I see you're from Wisconsin (seems to be a Midwestern thing)

7. Thanks for the link.
I see that most are down in southern Wisconsin, which I suspected, but there's a few in Kewaunee County. Will have to travel up there and take a look.

Thanks again! These are great!
