Show us your politicians
Have you taken any pictures of politicians? (pre-edited: I usually talk in terms of shooting landscapes or buildings--thought I'd better change that in the case of politicians :) ).

I've only photographed one politician: Dennis the K, 2004, Louisville, KY. The event was poorly attended, which was a shame. But this did afford me a front-row seat next to the photographer for the local newspaper.

Do you have pictures you've taken of politicians, or other politically-related personalities, e.g., journalists, columnists, advisors? Doesn't matter if they're left or right, American or not.

3 pictures of Dennis Kucinich:

1. I love these. Crisp and beautiful - I am a fan - -so let's
continue with DK -

A few years ago there was a Conference with people interested in working on establishing the Department for Peace.
I was at that conference and took the photos of Dennis K, Walter Cronkite and Maryanne Williamson.

The last one I'm throwing in because it is proud me standing at the door of Dennis's office.

3. Those are great, Mira. Nice shot of you in front of his office, too.
I didn't know that Dennis had distilled the hallmarks of civilization down to 3 points, but it looks like he got it right. ;)

2. I have a few.
I won't disgrace the site by posting my Palin pictures again, but here's one of my latest photos of Diane Benson who is running for lieutenant governor.

I also have photos of Dennis Kucinich, Maxine Waters, and Lynn Woolsey from one of the DC marches, Don Young (boo, hiss) from one of his "pork roasts" here in Anchorage, and several of Mark Begich. Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head, but they're not on my computer and I'd have to dig out the DVDs to find them.

I like this one of Diane the best.

4. that's very nice
Unless you're Annie Leibovitz, pictures of politicians are usually "grabbed" shots. The framing of the foreground "generic constituent" is nice. It shows Benson as engaged, obviously positive, and the foreground person does a nice job of serving as "Everyperson" without detracting from Benson. Her campaign might be interested in such a shot, you never know.

5. Not so much a Politician - but an Activist we are all proud of, I believe
This is Ray McGovern, an Ex CIA agent, who turned activist who lectures and writes.

DU often has his essays and commentaries.

I met him at a lecture and Q and A in my town to a very small group, and then a month later, at an anti Bush and war march in Fayetteville we marched together for a while and talked. He had remembered me.
Here he is being "frisked" to be let onto the field where we gathered for the speeches.

We have Inhofe, Coburn, and faux-Dem Dan Boren. I wouldn't be caught dead in the same room with them, let alone suffer my camera to such abuse. :eyes:

Great shots of my hero, tho. :D

I do love my DK, tho. We didn't have a camera the two times he was here and we were working his campaign. I love him and everything he stands for. I'd have married his as, too, if it weren't for Bill...oh, and that drop dead gorgeous Elizabeth. She better be good to him forever or I will send Skittles to kick her ass. Yes, indeed. LOL

Mira, you are gorgeous, love! I have a similar pic to your Ray McGovern, tho.

Ex-CIA analyst Mel Goodman.

When we were organizers for our peace group, he spoke one night in Tulsa and we drove him to OKC the next evening, and had dinner with him, before he spoke there.

I also have pics with Fr. John Dear from when I chaired our annual Season for Nonviolence committee. We had an Interfaith Service for which he was the keynote speaker. Got to pick him up at the airport, take him to his hotel, then take him to dinner with the committee before the event. I would post pics but Bill has them somewhere on his puter AND they have me in them. :eyes:

11. How FABULOUS - would it have been marvellous
to see each other for a big hug.
And obviously you were at the exact same place, your photos are wonderful, you had a good lens or a closer vantage point. Was that a day for the history books or what?
I was there with my grandson, whom I also took to the inauguration.
It was the right thing to do.

I'll more closely study your wonderful memories now.

Thanks

12. The closeups were with the 70-200.
I was so pleased to get those shots.

I was hanging out with InTheFlow for that trip. It's too bad we didn't know you then. It would have been great to meet you. :)

She met him after he gave a talk in Houston.

Carol Moseley Braun at the Salem NH Dean HQ the weekend before the primary. The shots of Howard were from a rally in Bryant Park NYC summer 2003.

18. Oh yeah, Mira. You got her in all of her glory
You took a great shot, although your subject material was lacking. Maybe we could get Ralph Steadman of Hunter Thompson book art fame to draw her.

19. Thanks, I'm thinking of some Bumperstickers:
her opponent (who unfortunately has an uphill battle in the very red 5th district) is a guy named Kennedy.
Smart, folksy, handsome.
