to deal with, this was shot on the porch of St. James Cathedral. John Ridout died in 1817, the loser in the last duel held locally, back when the place was still called York.
Coincidentally, another member of the Ridout clan was second partner in the architectural firm that designed the cathedral in the 1850s. The gravestones were relocated here when the burial ground adjoining the cathedral was closed in the wake of either a cholera or a typhus epidemic, I can't remember which.
