This month's contest theme is "reflections"
All pictures will be eligible, including any that were submitted in last month's water-themed contest. I will begin accepting submissions on Aug. 22, a Monday, which gives everybody more than two weeks to prepare.

As in past contests, I will accept the first 30 submissions. I will, however, require all photos to be sized down to 800 pixels on its longest side with a resolution of no more than 80. If you don't know how to do this, you can PM me the picture and I will do it for you.

The point is to have all photos uniform in size and quick to show up on the screen.

1. Interesting subject.
It's a broader subject than first impressions. Think of "reflections" as a thought process or "reflecting" as a verb as well as an obvious noun.

8. I see you managed to find a photo of that sculpture...
...before I did. ;-)

Next up, some shots from the past (like some posted here this past week), with no mirror or water in sight, bearing the title of the old Supremes song "Reflections of/the way life used to be."

3. Awww.....You spoiled my fun.
I will probably eventually end up with a mirror-type reflection, but I had already been toying with the idea of the pondering-type reflection.

I had been thinking it might be fun to enter one of the second type and see how long it took someone to discover the connection to the contest theme. :7

6. Way ahead of you
I still plan on taking some conventional reflection "exhibition" snapshots for grins but I have an old photo that I might enter in the contest.

Won't be a "vote magnet" but it'll definitely be an "outside the box" kinda' photo.:D

7. Hi jhain
:hi:

The way it usually works is the Master of Ceremonies (which this month is RagingInMiami) will start a submission thread here in the photo group. You just post your photo in that thread.

12. It needs to be on the web somewhere
Then you just copy the URL into the message, and where you typed the http...(etc).jpg address, once posted, you will see the image displayed, assuming that the address was a working one.

11. Cool.
I was also thinking of a meditational kind of reflection, such as the Rodan above. :) Is this great minds thinking alike, or do we all just hang out together here too much? LOL!

I'll probably just submit something I have scanned in from a few years back, since I won't be around for the voting. When does the offical submission thread go up, Raging?

13. Although this almost certainly won't be my entry...
...here's a "reflective" self-portrait from thirty years ago.

Note the 50's-era Yashica twin-reflex camera and separate light meter (not to mention the fact that the photographer actually had hair back then ;-) ).

16. Impressive, I was wondering
about cropping out the shadow area, but then noticed what appears to be the reflection of an enormous Raggedy Ann doll at the lower right. I suspect I'm past due for a vacation.

20. Did we decide that older photos are okay?
I'm not completely satisfied with my recent reflection shots ...

I was thinking maybe this one, which is a reflection of a black cloud from our recent trip...

But I'm really kind of partial to this sunset from last year. The water is hardly ever this still out on Cook Inlet.

That moose is mighty cool, but I think I like the second one best for composition. Funny about the moose -- I was looking all over Southcentral for a shot like that last week when we were out camping. Not one, single, solitary moose. I couldn't believe it. We did see a caribou at Lake Louise though - he was just too far away for me to get a shot.

24. It finally cooled down enough to go out and

shoot some photos. I have one reflection photo called Tea and Tiffany, but I will see what I get on my trek today before I decide on a submission.

I have added it and another reflection image to smugmug. Either one could be my entry. If you have a favorite of the two, let me know.

Of course that doesn't mean I will take your advice.

25. I like Tea and Tiffany
Very creative use of a reflection. Nice.

Glad to hear it cooled down a bit for you. It's finally cooled down here but we've had these damn things called.... CLOUDS. It's been great for snaparooing old buildings and flowers.... but terrible for reflections.

I have my entry ready to go. It's a little "different". Ms F absolutely hates it. It won't be a "vote magnet".

Good luck on your reflections trek.

BTW: If you want to link a photo without using your gallery and turning off your protection features you can put it in the misc/other gallery. I promise I won't delete it. :eyes: I don't know what the hell I was thinkin' yesterday. My head has been up my ass lately.

26. Thanks. I decided not to take photos around noon. I may
still go out, but not too sure.

What I like about Tea and Tiffany is how the lines pull your eye to the cup. The reflection is cool, but that isn't what I like about the picture.

There's another reflection on the side of the cup.

There was a spool of thread in the picture, I took it out. It messed up the composition.
