Anyone up for a “Hot Days of Summer” challenge/contest?

I’ve seen a few photo DUers express interest in wanting contest themes that are related to Summer. Thought it’d be nice to give everyone an opportunity to submit/share a photograph of “Summer”. It could be a favorite Summer Vacation photo that you have, a BBQ, Summer Party, 4th of July, a Summer Event, County/State Fairs, or for those that would rather be a little more creative… a shot of something that represents the “Hot Days of Summer” to you. Just anything that has to do with Summer.

As not to mess up the current Reflections Contest, if there is enough interest, I would start a thread for entering your “Hot Days of Summer” photo after the Reflections Contest is over. My thought would be to do it as a “contest” with voting in the Lounge like a regular monthly contest to determine “the best”.

A month is a long time. I don’t see any reason why we can’t have two contests going on every month. It would also give the Host of the main contest a chance to work on something other than “administrative” duties. As it stands now the current Host sits out the entire month. If this works maybe we can break tradition and start having two contests every month. It will allow the Host of one contest to enter a photo in the other contest and it would IMO create a larger participation in the sharing process by giving people who say…. “don’t have a reflection, flower, water photo…hate reflection, flower, water photos” a chance to work on or share something else.

Any interest? Your thoughts? Or….. have I just had too much coffee this morn'?

8. Interest seems a little sparse

But.... what the hell. You aren't starting the submissions for Reflections until the 22nd...right? I'll get it up and running so it can be completed before the 22nd.

There also hasn't been any feedback regaring having two challenges/contests each month. I think it would be a good idea.. for the reasons I mentioned in my caffeine overdosed post. :9

I tried getting the dog to pose a certain way for me recently and had zero success.

Well... I count at least 6 people who'll play along with this. I'll push the Start Button and see what happens.

It's just that they are plain, ordinary, boring reflections. (Well, the scenery in my Australian pictures surrounding the reflections is pretty cool - but as far as reflections go they are nothing special).

I think the "restriction" of having one per month has mainly been the amount of work involved and the number of people available to do the work. As more people participate, doing more contests/challenges becomes more feasable, and as more people want to participate, restricting the number of entries to 30 per month (maybe someone could juggle 4-5-6 subcontests of 10, but not me) might leave a number of people out. More contests would allow more people (total) to participate, and, as you observed, some topics may exclude people who just don't "do" the kind of photos called for.

Another factor is that with only one "official" contest/challenge some people worry that the "rules" or host might be discriminatory or unfair in some way, leading to an attempt to make sure those rules are clear and fixed in the best way. By rejecting the first "rule" that assumes that only one contest per month is proper or permitted, there should be far less concern that each and every one be "perfectly" conducted.

Let 100 flowers bloom, let 100 pets parade, let 100 sunrises arise -- the more the merrier, I say.
