Going unplugged
Camping by a 5000 ft. high lake, No phone, no electricity, no net, no
I'm ready. Worked more in the past 2 weeks than the previous 2 months, car died twice and needed towing for debilitating but not terminal ailments, got a flat, computer died and I had to build another which despite the usual dumb moves (seems I forgot to check for compatibility with my old video card), seems to work. I guess I should have suspected trouble when the space key turned into a delete key and vice versa, a symptom I attributed to the keyboard, but which seems to have reverted to normal -- something I hope my typing finger relearns soon.

Scott Lake - Blue Sky: The tent, with luck, will again be a bit off to the right.

Dog Days: Hmm, this could go into the "summer" thread, Feel free to include it.

1. Quite a few people leaving
We're going to try to sneak in a few more days "out" before August ends. I'm trying to line up a photo "gig" for next week. Doing it for free. Hope I don't screw it up.

Have a wonderful time. "Dog Days" will go in the summer thing. It's a little weak in numbers as of the moment. Thanks!

See ya' when you get back.
:hi:

2. I am totally envious
& somewhat jealous. Have a good trip ConsAreLiars, & bring back lots of photos. Are these two pics from film, or digital?

3. Thanks
All are from slides, mostly Velvia and less Provia since those came out, mostly Kodachrome before then, although that has been a while.

My idea of Paradise, at least for a month or two in the summer. The lake connects (or almost, depending on water level) to two adjoining ones, and there are trails to several others.

5. Scott Lake, in the Thee Sisters area in Oregon
http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/willamette/recreation/tripplanning/campgrounds/scott_lake.html

Lacking in every modern convenience and thus a perfect place to see some of what is most true. Although on the last visit two years ago our nearest neighbors were using a weekend gathering there to give a family farewell to a young man headed to Iraq. When the small group that had been occupying the site mentioned the upcoming event and expressed concern about impact of seeing the "No Iraq War" on my car, and some sympathy for it, I turned my car around so the sticker could not be seen. He/they deserved not to be reminded, for at least a few hours.

It is a place where one can imagine a better world, a place of peace. And a place where a gentle pit bull can pull a decent-sized stick out of the water

An evening view:

7. Oregon is one of my favorite places...
I lived there on a commune near Cave Junction in 1970. (Actually, I guess we were kind of squatters on public land -- whatever.) It was really pretty idyllic until September when the rains came. Then we were forced to pack up the tipi, assorted animals, kids and mind-altering substances and move to the Panamint Mountains down by Death Valley where we stayed until it got too cold and we were forced back to civilization. Those were the days.....
