NYC DU'ers - Go to MOMA! - The Cartier-Bresson exhibit is running through 28 June |
|
Called "The Modern Century" it showcases some 300 of Henri Cartier-Bresson's photos from the 1930's through the 1970's (when he essentially stopped taking photos and took up drawing). We spent over two hours in the exhibit and then bought the catalog. A really brilliantly curated show.

2. We saw the Pictures by Women exhibit as well. |
|
It was extraordinary.
I'm waiting to get my catalog back of the exhibit. I loaned it to a friend and he's pouring over it.
If we lived in NYC we'd be going to MOMA weekly - well, mostly. I'd be missing Abramovic every chance I got.

3. Honestly I didn't think I would like Abromovic as much as I did. |
|
The first part I could do without, all that soviet block performance art angst with the screeching and caterwauling and bouncing naked into pillars. However the more contemplative projects were a whole lot more interesting and Luminance was exquisite.

5. I didn't like her stuff at all. There seems, to me, to be a distinct lack of craft... |
|
in what she does.
But I'm just a guy who actually likes artists like Cartier-Bresson, Brassai, Pyle, Wyeth, Hopper, etc.
