Wow, now we REALLY know Keith's on vacation!
Someone else did the voiceover on a parody ad in which MSNBC promoted its upcoming "nonstop coverage" of the Runaway Bride's wedding...supposedly using all their anchors (picture of Keith shown).

It was a joke, of course...but Keith usually does voiceover on the jokes.

1. like we didn't know that before??
he's gone dead silent. KO with his mouth shut is pretty unusual. Either he's boning up for Friday, he's catching a tan somewhere, he's chasing a non-actress somewhere, he's entered baseball addiction rehab somewhere, or there's a family emergency. I hope he's enjoying himself, wherever he is.

2. Well, obviously he's not in baseball rehab (as the blog proves).
It sure did take him a long time to bone up for Friday, though...Nice that Dan is coming into NY just to do the first show with him.

Anyway, the reason this surprised me is that even in the past when he's been on vacation, Keith's voice has shown up on stuff like voiceovers for the Top 5 Favorites and even doing the MJ Puppet Theatre voices (which sometimes sounded as if he had phoned them in). For him to have let some other guy on staff do it instead...you KNOW he was serious about staying away from work!

3. like he'd go to baseball rehab, anyway...
that would be as cruel and futile as sending a gay teenager to one of those camps where they make you straight. And it's really not taking him that long to get caught up on sports if you think about all of sports and how long it's been since he last covered sports on a daily basis. A lot of the faces and some of the rules have changed. Baseball, no problem, 'cause he's been following that all along. The other sports? Mr. The-Sky-Is-Falling-And-I-Am-Personally-Responsible-For-Holding-It-Up isn't going to want to let his partner down, even though Dan probably doesn't expect Keith to be up on every last gnat fart that has occurred in sports world in the last eight years. I wouldn't be surprised if someone has been burning the midnight oil for weeks, now.

4. You are so right, gk!

Couldn't have said it better...

And do we really WANT KO to go into baseball rehab? Who wants to deprive him of something that makes him so happy??

Lucky thing, all he had to do on Dan's show this week was talk about how much the Yankees suck. Ah, I *DO* love to hear talk about how much the Yankees suck...it does my heart good...

Edited to add: I don't think he really WAS "boning up for Friday," given that I don't think he had all that much to bone up on. All he talked about was baseball, primarily the Yankees. And since it seems he's been to every single home game of theirs this season that didn't take place during a Countdown airing and even some that did (with the possible exception of maybe having gone to the first Washington Nationals game), there wouldn't be a whole lot of catching up to do on THAT topic!

5. no, he didn't really need to do any prep work to talk about
Edited on Sun Aug-07-05 09:44 PM by gkhouston
baseball and it's entirely appropriate for them to talk about baseball, but I wouldn't put it past him to have been doing catch-up work on the other sports, even though there wouldn't have been any particular reason to cover them this week. I suspect he doesn't want to feel like he's "coasting" rather than "co-hosting" and he's probably going to over-prepare for a while to stave off that insecurity; I know I would.

on edit: and you know something? If Dan catches him playing Captain Trivia, he'll probably tease him about it; could be fun.

6. He may well have done that, yes.
And it would be like Keith to over-prepare.

And I think Dan is already teasing him about being Captain Trivia...and he's already teasing Dan for not remembering ANY trivia. Like the thing about the statistic Keith brought up about someone's stats in 1987 that Dan said he couldn't remember. Something like:

KO: "You don't remember anything that happened in 1987. Life for you began in 1992 when I joined you on SportsCenter."

DP: "Yeah, that's actually when I began following sports."
