And there have been many. Obviously, it was personal with Keith. I got his e-mail notice earlier today, so made it a point to tune in on time. *sigh* What a sad return for him.;(

Nobody would dare get as personal as he just did. Nobody else could get away with it. But he put his entire heart into that last story. And I'm sure that he reached more than a few people. Maybe even me. Great job, Keith.;(

because of a benign tumor. Damn!!

Listen to Keith people. My mom is a breast cancer survivor. She had a tumor removed in 1999. And has been cancer free since then.

However today, she informed me she has an appointment for a mammogram in the morning because she says she feels another small lump in the same breast. I am holding my breath and praying that is is just that...a lump. A benign lump.

My prayers are with you and your family. I have three friends who all had lymphoma, and all survived. They caught it early, and that helped. Hopefully, your mom will be a survivor, too.

I know the waiting is interminable -- I had a benign lump a few years ago and even though they told me after removal that it was "probably" benign, the wait seemed endless.

2) Dude, now we know where he was last week. Whoa.

3) Ok, you're right, KO, I should quit smoking. Maybe I'll give it another whirl. Because, DAMN, that ending? Jeez Louise... are you TRYING to make me wreck the car? :P

24. Whew.
I'm sorry, I can't really post much tonight after this.

This has hit too close to home. I lack the required emotional distance.

What I can say is...

Keith, every time I think you can't outdo yourself in your ability to combine the professional with the personal, you always do. And I wish, so wish, you had not had to go through what you had to go through. And that you will never have to go through worse.

Grey, I will be saying a prayer for your mom.

Oh, and crispini, screw anyone thinking you're a fangirl. Cancer won't care. Can the smokes. You'll be better off for it, whether you believe it now or not.

:grouphug: to all.

And RIP to Peter...who may have done a lot of people good in this world without even knowing it.

Think of it as a great series of letters you could write to him.

Compare:

Wow, your closing segment inspired me to quit smoking. I am on day 2. Thank you for potentially saving my life.

vs.

Wow, your closing segment was interesting television - after watching it I ran out and bought another two cartons. Man I love me some nicotine.

30. It doesn't matter why you quit...just do it.
I'll always wonder if part of my grandmother's rapid Alzheimer's Disease was because of her heavy smoking. That weakening her body probably didn't help it.

Don't worry about what people think about your reasons for quitting. Quite frankly, screw 'em. It's your fight. It's your life. Just do it.

31. My mom's lung problems are probably due to 2nd hand smoke.
Mom never smoked, but her father was a heavy smoker. When grandma sold the house, we scrubbed the walls and the nicotine build-up was nauseating. Her pulminologist says that second-hand smoke could well be a factor in her lowered lung-capacity.

If not for yourself, do it for those who love you... and those who may live with you (kitties and doggies included).

34. I didn't know you smoked.
Yes, quit. Now. Before I come up there and kick your ass. Because you know what? Even if the cancer doesn't get you, it will turn the rest of your health to utter shit. I watched my Dad die by inches for the last ten years of his life, his vitality gradually slipping away, high blood pressure this, atherosclerosis that, and a bunch of other shit and all of it was exacerbated by his smoking. It was incredibly painful to see. Because he was one of those "visit me while I'm alive and not after I'm dead" people, I spent nine weeks of the last ten months of his life at home (i.e., out of town) because I knew the end was fast approaching and when he did die, two months, two lousy months before I finally fucking graduated, I couldn't get away for the funeral because there wasn't any time left; I had spent so much time away from writing my dissertation that I was in danger of not finishing by the final drop-dead deadline. Instead, I bought a couple of boxes of tissues and went to school and sat there formatting tables of test results with tears running down my cheeks, just like now. All those years of secondhand smoke from my father and her own mother have done a number on my mom's lungs so now she's starting to have breathing problems.

Quit. Now. Please.

Watchin' the rerun. Lawsa, I hate this tie. Did he get it from Abrams?

edited to add: I can quit, I just can't STAY off 'em. When I get stressed or when I go out to a bar I get a serious jones for the cancer sticks. honestly, I can go for months without one but stress me out enough and pffft.... :eyes: ....

I'll try quitting again... maybe this time it'll be for good. :7

You can do it, honestly. Listen to gk, who speaks truth (and thanks for it, gk).

You were talking about him redoing the between-shows part--yes. I was listening on XM in bed and heard that. It reminded me: one of the things that impressed me most about last night was how, after all the serious things Keith had to say, he was still able to pull it together and say "Keep your knees loose" and pitch that paper wad and welcome Rita (even though I have no use for the hoarse-voiced tabloid-story chaser at all) on board. I really did not expect that. And it made my respect for him, already through the roof, go into the stratosphere.

because if KO's gonna keep using Dan's tie-selector you're going to have a hell of a time kicking the habit. :7

I know it's a tough habit to kick; someone who'd kicked both once told me that for them, it was tougher to kick tobacco than it was to give up heroin. But others have done it and so can you. Hell, you organized a precinct -- all you have to do this time is herd one person and you know all of that person's bullshit so you've got a head start on that gig, right? ;-)

on edit: Final Notice of Opinion: Back when Jennings made his announcement, I promised I'd give up complaining about The Grey Suit From Hell if Keith gave up tobacco. My opinions of its sartorial splendor haven't changed in the slightest, but I will not be joining the pile-up in the future if for some reason KO wears this suit again, which might happen if he gets dressed in the dark or he sits on a painted surface while wearing one of his good suits or he breaks a law and part of the creative sentencing agreement includes wearing unflattering clothing or... I'm stopping now. O8)
