The most exhaustive test flight in the space shuttle fleet's 24-year history ended Tuesday with the shuttle Discovery's pre-dawn touchdown in California. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8825954/

A suicide car bomber struck a U.S. convoy near a crowded square in Baghdad, killing at least seven people, including a U.S. soldier, in a wave of violence in the capital ahead of the resumption of talks on drafting a new constitution. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8870403/

Health officials believe a Tulsa water park may be a link between two Tulsa boys who died Friday from a rare, waterborne disease. The Health Department is testing stagnant water in a drainage area near a "splash pad" in Mohawk Park. The two boys had apparently played at the water park about two days apart within the last two weeks, health officials said. http://www.channeloklahoma.com/news/4819737/detail.html

Military Idol -- Monica Novotny reports.

That's some of what we're planning for tonight's show.

Finally,
Bill Tangeman is making a documentary film about a man who set out in 1997 to get a caffeinated drink at every corporate-owned Starbucks store on the planet. On his Web site (<http://www.starbuckseverywhere.net> ) "Winter", who was born Rafael Antonio Lozano, said that as of Aug. 8, he had visited 4,775 Starbucks in North America and 213 in other parts of world. There are 5,715 corporate-owned Starbucks in the world. http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/S/STARBUCKING_MOVIE?SITE=NWCN&TEMPLATE=STRANGEHEADS.html&SECTION=HOME
And when Winter is done with Starbucks, it's on to 7-11s and Slurpees!

1. You're right, Catch
I wonder why he's not covering the story tonight. Maybe he will later in the week.

By the way, I think we're going to wind up staying near Capitol Hill. One of the others in our group made the hotel reservations already. SE isn't the greatest neighborhood, but it will be closer to everything we're going to be doing and it's not too bad in that area, as it's on the edge of SE. I think where you're staying may be better, even though it's farther away, but we'll be fine.

2. Hey Keith - did you read this quote made by Cindy today?
Why do the right wing media so assiduously scrutinize the words of a grief filled mother and ignore the words of a lying president?
~~ Cindy Sheehan ~~ 8/9/05

It is a good question, isn't it?

4. It looks like NBC won't allow the coverage.
The Today Show and Hardball cancelled scheduled interviews.

It may not be up to Keith, but if it is and if he does cover her story, then he should have her quote.

((((( ))))))) It is so good to see you! :hi:

I hope you are right, Keith has always been the guy I rely on to report the news that the RWers don't want reported.

Fingers crossed and floaty hearts for Keith :loveya: :loveya: :loveya:

7. Even Wolf reported it, albeit briefly.
If MSRNC cans the story, they're getting an angry e-mail, asking them "are you journalists, or FOX-lite?"

9. I agree with you.."Bummer, Keef"
I emailed him yesterday, suggesting he do a piece on Cindy, but no reply, not that I really expected one.
I'm not giving up on him still doing a story, though.

10. Right now he has his hands full dealing with his story on smoking/cancer.
Give him time. It's the least anyone can do, given that he's never shown himself to be cowed out of doing a story before.

11. Thanks, BerryBush.
I found out about KO's cancer scare AFTER I wrote the post you replied to.
Poor Keef! :(
The poor guy is being trashed in other areas of DU. Silly DU'ers, doubting him like that.

12. I don't even get what people thought was so bad about the show
tonight, aside from the lack of Sheehan. I mean, c'mon, people, that story is not going away; there will be all week to cover it.

13. Exactimundo.
I don't mean to knock Cindy but there are a million stories in the Naked City and while hers is important, it is but one of them. I know people have built up in their heads that the whole MSM is conspiring against showing us anything of her. I believe this is not true and will be proven untrue once the story has built critical mass...by some outlets, anyway.

14. and when is that story going to be juiciest? Probably tomorrow.
Well, it could get even better after that, but I'm expecting a mention of her story tonight or (more likely) tomorrow night, when I won't be able to see it.
