The Worst Statute in the World!!!
If "Countdown" ever came up with a category for it, this would be the one. Now, I love Princess Diana, but this is HIDEOUS!!

1. 76% of people responding to the CNN poll
think the statue is "in poor taste."

An ALBATROSS? Egad. That's a Python sketch!

2. Obviously, someone didn't read
"The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" in lit class.

3. Having been to this monument in Harrods
(thankfully without the yucky statue) I can tell you that this won't make it any tackier than it already is. It's at the bottom of an escalator, in the middle of the "Egyptian Wing" which was dedicated by Mubarek himself.

They have champagne glasses from the suite and the ring he was to give her. Tack-a-rama!

Here's a photo:

5. i have to agree pats
i didn't know what was sadder--the tacky display or the people gathering around it leaving flowers, etc....it was all my cousin & i could do to keep a straight face......

the princess diana memorial fountain, otoh, was very nice & actually quite peaceful, probably because most folks don't know where it is yet. :)

6. Me too!
As we're standing there, soaking in the bad taste, a woman and her mother come up and, in a very heavy Cockney accent, the daughter says, "Kinda brings a tear to your eye, don't it?"

My husband and I could not get away from them to crack up fast enough!
