Are they expecting it on the whole east coast of Florida?
Or just the southern end? My daughter hasn't said anything and she lives in Jupiter and works in West Palm. She does gift fairs at senior residences and I'm not sure if she has anything scheduled for Friday.

Next update at 11 p.m. Even if it is a hurrricane, it's gonna be a Category 1. On this, the anniversary of Andrew, I can't get worked up about anything under a 3. :)

110. Keith's getting MAJOR props tonight on DU for reporting
a story they broke...that the anti-anti-war protest is not as "grassroots" as it was intended to look.

By the way, there's a term for this...when a marketing group or ad agency attempts to market or sell a product or idea by creating an artificial movement in support of it that appears to have sprung up spontaneously so as to appear more convincing. It's called "astroturfing."

Dana Milbank was talking about tonight for the War Formerly Known As The War On Terrorism.

But now simply to be known by an androgynous pro-war/anti-war symbol.

P.S. The sandwich looks yummy.

P.P.S. Who put snark in Milbank's cornflakes? This is the second time in a row he's come armed with funny props!

75. yep, still planning on it
i'm really trying hard to convince my friends to fly & not drive, but the one who really wants to drive doesn't want to fly because it's "too much hassle." yeah, as opposed to 48 hours round-trip in the car...

i may just plead "but i have court on friday & monday" & fly in. :)

that way, i'll have time to go to the DU meetups! :)

80. We're flying
The bus wasn't an option other than as a very, very last resort. I would have considered sharing driving (it's only about 9 hours), but airfares were down and gas is up, it made way more sense to fly and be rested when we got there. Flying is way less hassle than driving 24 hours each way.

We get in early Friday afternoon and are staying at the Capitol Hill Suites. We're leaving late Sunday afternoon.

88. that's what i keep saying
ok, to catch southwest, i'll still have to drive to san antonio, but hell, it's $215 to BWI, & we can catch the metro into DC!! (ok, have to catch a bus to the greenpoint station, but still better than a cab.) I think we'd end up spending much more on gas than on airfare & we'd have time to wander around DC if we got into town early enough on Friday.

I really want to go, but the friend I was going with still doesn't know if she's going to be free. The only thing I'm not really thrilled about is that I'd be getting at like midnight or 1 am on Friday. I do not like getting into strange cities so late.

Is everyone staying at Capitol Hill Suites? That seems to be the choice of many DUers.

Unfortunately, the bar where the Friday night meet up was going to be burned down today and they're looking for a new place. Details will be posted in the DC forum. There's also going to be a meetup for breakfast on Saturday before the rally, location yet to be determined, as well as something Saturday night. I forgot the name of the place. LynneSin is organizing everything and I'm sure she'll post final details when the time gets closer.

to Union Station for less than $10 one way. Union Station is on the Red Line, and if memory serves, it's not far from Metro Center, where you could switch to the other lines, as desired.

on edit: M-F, you can use MARC, which is only $6. For trips on the weekends, you'd have to take Amtrak, which is $14. Not sure what your travel plans are. Both would take you from BWI to Union Station.

86. Hi all, driving by
saw the discussion about acupuncture. I personally have not been treated, but I have a sister who swears by acupuncture. There seem to be more people nowadays who are coming to the realization that they do indeed get relief from alternative methods (acupuncture, chiropractic), and forgoing the expensive prescription drugs that most times cause additional side effects which the doctor prescribes even more drugs. Arrgh.

I'm just about done with the Franklin Cover-up and am totally freaked out that this stuff could have happened. My hubby thinks I'm wearing a tinfoil hat, but I told him when he reads it after me, he'll believe it. It's so scary to think that something so horrific could have been covered up by so many people.
