Tough week on DU, huh?
No matter what I post/or respond to, the responses are just UGLY lately. NO, not here, but I just feel safe expressing my feelings here.

Anybody else feel this? Crikesey, couldn't even enjoy the Pope's funeral and the Royal Wedding Live blogs on DU without people posting such hate and venom. I'm not an alert type of person, but maybe I screwed up not hitting alert on those who posted nasty stuff.

Yeh, tough weeks behind us, here's to

:loveya:

Thanks for letting me rantovent :)

1. Hi, Catch..
I was just pondering that very thing a few hours ago. I was on DU earlier this morning, and had to walk away (it was the "Camilla looks like a Horse" stuff that got me crabby). So I went down to the basement and began doing laundry (I HATE doing laundry, so when I finally get to it, that's pretty much a sign that something's bothering me). Here's what I came up with:

Some people are so shallow, they only want to hate others. I remember being around people like that when I was in my 20's. I had to get away from them, because they were killing me, emotionally.

Some people are so remarkably insecure, they only feel better about themselves when they are actively destroying someone else. I think of Rush, Ann Coulter, and O'Reilly here.

Some people are scared to death of what's happening in the world, and here at home. Instead of admitting that fear, they lash out.

Some are just imitators: "Monkey see, monkey do."

We need hope. We need something to feel good about. We need to stop seeing the half-empty glass, and need to be thankful that our glass is half-full.

That's why I love Keith, and the KOEB. We are a hopeful people. :)

2. I actually think this hateful feeling has been going on
since the beginning of the Schiavo case. It started with Schiavo then with the Pope and continued on with the Charles and Camilla wedding. I personally have tried to avoid all of the circus involving all of these stories.

I will say that I'm sick and tired of all three stories, and have tried to avoid all of the threads about them. I agree though about the nasty comments on Camilla. I had my fill of hateful comments regarding a persons looks when I was in school. Why must some people always make snide remarks on a person's looks especially when it's a woman?

I really hate that.

3. Greylyn, doesn't it surprise you when it's women . . .
. . . putting other women down? They *themselves* have been on the receiving end -- but they'll turn right around and do a whole fashion critique, including hair, nails, who knows what-all, on another woman who can't defend herself, like Camilla!

I'm reading a book right now about the history of ESPN, and our hero is riding to the rescue of women at that network who are being sexualy harrassed. Really taking a risk and being very outspoken about it. (This is happening in the early-mid '90s.)

Keith has always had high ideals. The man is so civilized, I'm really glad he's out there where people can see what a civilized man looks, sounds and, especially, *thinks* like!

Dear darling Keith, defender of women everywhere! :loveya:

4. I think it's pure frustration.
There are so many important things that the media simply aren't covering because of Schiavo, the Prince and the Pope (sounds like a musical group).
I mean, CNN gave 60 seconds to the mass protests in Baghdad, Faux never covers anything that puts Dear Leader in a bad light and the New York Times employes people like Judith Miller and Elisabeth Bumiller who bend over backwards to appease the neo-cons.
I know it frustrates me to no end.

5. I was just thinking how nice it was to watch the wedding.

Too much sturm und drang right now! The funeral coverage had the salutory effect of keeping the Schindlers and their supporters out of our collective faces, too. Camilla is a good looking middle aged woman which is anathema to many people iin our culture, especially the tabloids. If they had gotten married 35 years ago and had had a good if unspectacular marriage the tabloids would be criticizing them as 'dull' and 'stodgy'. The royals can't win for losing!
