For those coming to New York |
|
Turns out that LynneSin, JimmyJazz, Joan Alpern and possibly merh are going to come to New York that same weekend. They were going to be there two weeks earlier, but now are going to DC that weekend. When Lynne heard we were going to be there, she thought it was a good excuse to come the same weekend, since they wanted to come at some point anyway.
We're going to try to set up a NY meetup. Right now we're thinking maybe early drinks Saturday night with any DUers who might want to meet up with us and then dinner with our group and their group.
I know we want to go to the theatre, but DG and I talked about it and figured we could do a matinee Saturday so we could see everyone at night.
I hope this is okay with everyone, it just sort of happened. DG and I figured the more the merrier. It's always so great to meet as many DUers as one can meet and this is a great opportunity.
Lynne knows some good places to go. She and I will talk in the next few days. She's got something posted in the New York forum. Things disappear too quickly in GD and the Lounge.
I'm getting even more excited -- just another 5 weeks!

2. When Lynne calls me over the next few days |
|
I'll tell her to do that.
They're going to try to find a hotel near ours in Murray Hill -- Lynne said ours is too pricey for them. (I think it's too pricey for me, too, but what the hell. I don't do this that often -- my credit card bill will get paid in time, it's not that bad.)
BTW -- For grins, I went out to Northwest to see what the fare would be if I did it now with the sale, and to get the lowest price you have to fly at 6 a.m. or 9:30 p.m. and it wasn't even less than what I'm paying. I did just fine booking early. My flights would now be more expensive. I'm glad I went out to the site -- they changed my flight numbers and didn't notify me. I leave five minutes later than I was originally supposed to, too.

3. Here's where we are now |
|
Edited on Fri Jan-13-06 10:28 AM by SharonRB
Lynne and I just PMd back and forth a couple of times. I thought it might be better if we meet up with her group for dinner around 6 and then schedule the after-party for everyone for around 8. She thought that was a good idea, too. If we met for drinks first, I had a feeling we'd never feel like leaving to go have dinner -- once you get a bunch of DUers at a place, no one ever wants to leave. This way everyone can party as late as they want to and there won't be any constraints to have to leave for dinner.
In addition to that, I know that I, for one, couldn't wait to eat dinner after drinking -- I'd be starving and would wind up having to have two dinners. Not a good thing.
Hope this sounds good to everyone.
On edit:
I asked her to send me everyone's e-mails for the Yahoo Group.

5. I think a couple of people have written to Countdown |
|
None of us has heard back (they probably don't want us anywhere near Keith). From a post I read last week from someone who got tickets to The Daily Show, it takes months to get tickets and then you have to stand in line for hours to even get in. I don't know about Conan.
The funny thing is, Lynne thought maybe we were all coming to NY because we had a tour to Secaucus planned. I told her it wouldn't be safe -- too many of us would faint if we got within a block of Keith.
Have you made your hotel reservation?

6. I wrote MSNBC/Secaucus asking for a tour.... |
|
never heard back either :(
I went through viewer services too. Double that :(
I still think alerting the NY DUers to a meet-up would be fun. They know the best "bars" :)
No reservations yet, but it shouldn't affect the KOEBie plan since I'm going solo/and/or staying in Brooklyn with my dd.
Can't wait to see ya'll, since I saw ya's but didn't meet ya's in DC last Sept :silly:

I do deserve that :) However, you don't remember me talking to you and, I think, Sharon? I "spoke" to every DU sign holder on the corner of "K" (?) street that day, but, d'oh me, introduced myself as DUer Denise from Virginia Beach. Never saw a KOEB sign, until the post-protest photos were posted on DU several days later. I'm still smacking myself in the head for not being more aggressive with the DU crowd. I'm an introvert :( Though I helped with the Spirit sign, and "marched" those DUers names with us in "spirit" that day. My arms still hurt :) In a good way :silly:

You and I were shouting her name for a while there on the corner before the march started. Just figured she didn't make it.
You need to speak up, Catch. I'm pretty shy, too, but once I get to know people, I'm not. And with a group like DU it's easy to be extroverted -- you know people are going to be happy to meet you and think like you do, for the most part.

Send Kelly or me your phone numbers so we can keep in touch and let you know what we're doing when.
LynneSin, although she's from Delaware, knows a lot of places in NY. I suspect Bunny or bettyellen may also have some suggestions.

Nada.
On the other hand, two weeks before we go I'll be in Atlanta for a meeting from work. We're staying at the Omni at the CNN Center and have a tour set up there one night. I'm looking forward to it. Guess MSNBC doesn't want us anywhere near Keith. We know they read us.

Seriously, I don't think they're set up for guest studio tours. I'm pretty sure NBC at Rockefeller Center is, if anyone is so inclined. I toured there way back in the day when I was a wee lass.

Rather than an inquiring letter to the entire studio, why not approach Keith's producers? Tell them you'd love to see them hold a gun to his head while they're "forcing" him to cover Bragelina.

When he appeared on Leno he mostly talked to Leno and barely glanced at the audience. He later called that one long, nervous walk or words to that effect.

Izzy: "Keith, we have something we want you to okay."
KO: <sigh> "Don't tell me, it's another Brangelina story."
Izzy: "No, is it okay for your KOEB fan club to tour the studio?"
KO dives under his desk in fright, "No, I've had enough of crazy broads!"

21. no, no, that's not what Izzy says. Here's how it goes: |
|
Izzy: "Keith, we've already called Michael and lined him up for tonight."
KO: (warily) "You have? Why?"
Izzy: (false brightness) "It's a two-fer. Brangelina and TomKat."
KO: "NO! I told you I wasn't ever going to do that again. Even with Michael. There are limits."
Izzy: "Big Guy, it's either Brangelina and TomKat or I let those estrogen vixen take the tour."
KO: (beat) It's estrogen driven vixen." (beat) "You wouldn't really let them in?"
Izzy: "I'm sure you'll remember meeting them a lot longer than you'll remember doing the Brangelina/TomKat segment."
Ladies, who needs guns when Izzy has us?
