And guess what ELSE is up on eBay!!!!!!...THE PUPPETS!!!!
I now have to grovel on the floor and say...I DO believe in sweeps stunts, oh I do I really do...

Just saw a commercial (not taping, but I trust it will be on again during the show!) in which it said Keith is auctioning off the Michael Jackson Puppet Theatre puppets for charity!!!!

Is this cool or what??

7. A possible fly in the ointment
Edited on Tue May-10-05 09:42 AM by Shopaholic
so to speak. I just saw this at InsideCablenews.com:

"Unfortunately, it appears that Countdown has decided not to require bidders to be preapproved, as most heavily bidded celebrity-related auctions are, so there’s a possibility that some of these bids are fraudulent."

I sure hope not. This is a great cause.

8. I saw that, and I hope not too...
but from what experience I have of eBay, they will probably hold people to their bid, so if anyone is bidding anything they can't deliver on or don't intend to pay...they just may get stuck.

I won an offline auction once, not because I was the highest bidder on the item in question, but because I was the highest bidder who would actually honor my bid! That was a bit disappointing. I mean, I was glad I won the item, and I could afford to honor the bid, but it was a little disappointing to learn they had to go a ways down the list to find someone who didn't beg out of having to pay up!

9. Some bad things go on at Ebay sometimes
bidders who won't pay and sellers who are selling fraudulent or non-existent items. I won't buy anything over there unless the seller has a high feedback rating and lots of previous sales. I read those feedback comments carefully and make sure that their prior transactions weren't just as buyers but as sellers. And if they won't accept PayPal or don't offer lots of pictures of the item in question, I won't buy. So far, in nearly 100 trades, I've never been burned.

By the way, if y'all haven't yet--go check out the question & answers section on the Puppet bid page. They are hysterically funny!

10. Look out Sparky
From the auction Q & A

"Q: Can there be an auction to buy dinner for the intelligent, funny, and beautiful Monica Novotny?

A: Monica is not for sale, but how much would you pay to take a PUPPET of Monica out to dinner? "

Zap2it.com - TV News - Olbermann's Jacko Puppets Fetch Big Bucks

Tuesday, May 10, 2005

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) On his MSNBC show "Countdown," Keith Olbermann gets around the ban on cameras in the Michael Jackson trial courtroom by offering up a regular feature called "Michael Jackson Puppet Theatre."

The extremely simple puppets -- faces of key figures in the trial attached to popsicle sticks -- help Olbermann re-create the events of the trial that day with an appropriate level of seriousness and a not-entirely-accurate representation of court transcripts (unlike, say, E!'s much more elaborate re-enactments).

Monday (May 9), Olbermann and the "Countdown" staff decided to put six of the original puppets, "hand crafted" by "Countdown" staffers and autographed by the anchor, up for auction on eBay. Then things really got silly.

Within 90 minutes of the first $5 bid's submission, the price of the six puppets -- of Jackson, Santa Barbara District Attorney Tom Sneddon, defense lawyer Thomas Mesereau Jr., Judge Rodney Melville, Jackson's pet chimpanzee and his early-trial crutches and pajamas -- had zoomed to $14,347. After an overnight lull, someone topped that with a bid of $14,400.02.

"We are absolutely thrilled that the public has reacted so strongly to our puppets," Olbermann says. "We will therefore be postponing the next few shows so the staff can focus on the important work of making as many additional puppets as possible."

Bidding closes at 9 p.m. ET Thursday. Proceeds will go to the Celiac Sprue Association, which aids people with celiac disease.

12. And this story blogged:
What do you do when cameras aren't allowed into one of the biggest celebrity trials of all-time? You put on a puppet show! That's what Keith Olbermann and gang have been doing on Countdown. And they decided to put the puppets up on ebay to see how much money they could get for them (the money will go to the Celiac Sprue Association, an organization that helps those with celiac disease). The bidding is up to $14,700! That's pretty good for puppets of Jackson, the lawyers, the judge, and Jackson's chimp Bubbles. Bidding ends on Thursday. I wonder if the Jackson puppet comes with extra noses, like Mr. Potato Head?
