KOEB meeting - Monday, 5-9-05
Happy Monday, KOEBers and ASTBers!
Keith is in the house and you can tell by the look on his
face he knows he's all that (but he'd never say it!)

4. Yeah, but it didn't last long (I didn't even see it)
I came in when he was talking about Bolton.

:hi:

Snap is here!

Trooper's doing very well with her. They've barked at each other a couple of times, but it's mostly because somebody takes one whiff de butt too often.

Ooops - had a tinkle accident... be back.

. . . Hi, baby Snap!

They're gonna examine the RunnyBride's brushes w/ the law later -- more's the pity. x(

So... um... that leaves the baby. :7

It might help things if we go with the meeting thread that is already up. It was started at 7:52, which is probably not that early.

89. I need to apologize here.
I am sorry, Whirly. I did not mean to upset you or anyone else.

Everything I said here was utterly sincere. I did not know the protocol (that's why I asked before even trying to start a thread my first time).

I meant no insults, no carrying on, no fights, whatsoever.

And that's the truth.

I am not trying to curry sympathy either. I mean it.

Now that's enough of that. :-)

Check my post above, you did right. I didn't start a thread for months, I was too scared. Whirly was cool too, we've had multiple threads before, it's no big thing. All that ever matters is that we have fun, and sometimes learn something from the show. All the lady's hearts are in the right place, or they wouldn't be on DU, much less the KOEB. I'm a fine one to talk, I'm estrogen-challenged.

So who's going to be around for the reair? At this rate I'm up doing my laundry so late, I probably will be! I wonder whether they'll have to re-do it to acknowledge that the clock has already started running on the auction. Hey, that alone is enough reason to tape that one too.

Yes--I guess nostalgia doesn't take as long as it used to--LOL.

But remember the halycon days when we had a lot more posters and a lot more posts by this point in the show?

Of course, for the dial-up users, it wasn't so much fun--it took forever for those threads to load!

139. On nights when there aren't so many excused absences, there are more posts
. . . Patsy, crispini and Rev, three of our more prolific posters, alerted us they would be away for a few days. I know of no other Keith site which attracts so many people, not to mention such nice ones. Such quality is not measured in post totals.

That having been said, totals in the hundreds are not unusual on these blogs. One night recently we had close to 400 posts, just on the blog -- and there were other live threads here in the Clubhouse that day as well.

Nostalgia will undoubtedly be felt for this moment in KOEB history someday.

. . . It's not like experiencing Woodstock after the fact, which is subject to the POV of documentary makers.

It's more like saying, Ohhh, you shoulda been there on Tie Night! Anyone can read those threads; they've been collected here in the Clubhouse by our dedicated historians.

All these experiences are created 100% through the miracle of technology, and through the miracle of technology nobody ever has to miss them!

Its just been end of semester madhouse lately. I can't wait until the 15th is over.
No the vet didn't for this one. The one before I could open and mix with something else. But he sent me an extra one in case I couldn't get the first one in him. So thinking whole, specially since its a chemo drug. Its in him. But he bit into it first then swallowed FAST. So now to watch it stays in him. Instructions that came with the pill said give one pill once a month.

26. Anybody seen Patsy?
Is she is Paris? I seem to recall her saying she'd be going there for a trip.

It's great that KO is staying with this story about the pastor in NC who is dictating politics to his flock. Perhaps the threat of losing tax exempt status will give him pause, although I have heard there is some house bill circulating that will prevent churches who preach politics from losing that status and it might get passed soon. That would not be good (we need an understatement smilie)

37. Ah the Runaway Bride.
I think there's a book called the Runaway Bunny, do I sense a potential parody in the works?

Anyway, I haven't really followed the story except for the nights I was able to watch Countdown and Keef was covering it. Looks as if her 'born again virgin' fiancee withholding sex has made her eyes bug out unnaturally and has apparently driven her to shoplifting now.

I wait with baited breath for the details.

46. Runaway Bunny is a child's book.
And one of Ramzey's first books. :)
It's about a little bunny who wants to run away tells his mother how he will escape, but she is always right behind him; even if he changes into a fish, she will become a fisherman fishing with a carrot.

Actually my DU name comes from my kids favorite books when they were very little, the Voyage to the Bunny Planet books by Rosemary Wells.

Nice to see he's donating the money to the Celiac Sprue Foundation.

But at the rate they're going (and he's auctioning them off all as a group rather than separately...boo!), only GoldenPalace.com will be able to afford them!

By the way, how did you find the link? It wasn't on the Countdown site and you can't reach it via eBay search. I checked just to see.

Now I'm starting to wonder if "the pants" weren't just a case of viral marketing on the part of his staff! Do ya think...?

118. Hi, Berry! Yes, Bill Gates is not a personal favorite of mine. I do
suspect he may come to regret the craven actions of this attempted anti-gay bigot appeasement. At the very least, he has royally pissed off people who abhor anti-gay bigotry, including many employees - a major one resigned over this. And I hope many customers too - the new Macs and the Tiger OS are just wonderful and incompatibility is really not an issue any more despite the efforts of Microsoft to keep it so.

Yeah, Darth Microsoft can go peel potatoes. It's about all their IE software is good for.

Hah!

and like you, not just because of their products.

There was a column in the local paper the other day about this minister who intimidated them into appeasing the anti-gay crowd. He tries to come off as this big softie but he doesn't fool anyone who believes that everyone's a human being.

154. I've used Macs since their beginning and never use a Windows computer
unless absolutely forced to. They just keep giving me better reasons for this - as if the products and the monopolistic bullying of Microsoft were not enough

But I do suspect that the REAL reason behind Bill Gates' caving to the anti-gay bigots isn't that one awful minister but toadying for the Bush administration's perks and preferences. They want to do what they can to appease their RW fundie enablers, who are pissed that all the non-bigot judges haven't been burned at the stake by now and all non RW fundies declared unAmerican.

Bill Gates isn't a pushover but he IS a monopolistic thinker who I can easily imagine seizing a chance for an inside track in exchange for a company policy change that would please the fundies.

203. I do have a feeling it was a meeting of the minds - Darth Gates and Darth
Cheney or one of the many other Darth neocons running amok in the White House. He wouldn't cave to appease some nutcase minister - but a promise of hands-off anti-trust cases or other perks - he'd go for it, I'm betting. It's "just business." Such a drab excuse.

221. Sounds good to me. But I still suspect this anti-gay policy was more
to please the politicians and their buddies than to appease crackpot ministers. But that's just a hunch based on what I have heard about Gates' personality. He's a supreme competitor who will go for clever ways to the inside rail that avoid outright value comparisons if possible. The value of the product is way down the list as long as it's good enough that people can be pressured by other factors into buying it.

Amazingly, many of Keith's old SportsCenter fans seem to think that statement was made in malicious truth, rather than as the joke I'm sure Craig intended it to be.

Hope your health insurance problems are solved soon. Not too many people have friends to raise $50K like Andy did - it's unthinkable that this was necessary to give him a chance to live, and almost no one else without health insurance - and many WITH - would not have had the chance this extraordinary effort and generosity are giving him.

I recall one of the replies in an Andy thread, a Canadian who was so appalled that this was necessary to save his life - this person would not have had to pay anything. And of course all the stress and anxiety were NOT good for Andy's health either, and that tumor was allowed to contine to grow, when it should have been removed immediately.

when I was facing big medical bills and about to lose my job, I was sorely tempted to auction off my own health care.

Being in Andy's situation is not funny...which is why I really have to add to his kitty somehow even though he's at least got his surgery money. Yeah, Canadians do think this is absurd. I know from personal experience (and this is just from having a lousy strep throat in a small Ontario town on a Saturday morning and having no place to go when I couldn't breathe but the emergency room) that they treat you first and ask questions later.

144. if anyone watches the midnight re-air, pay close attention to
the interview with John Harwood (I believe that's his name -- the guy who's the political editor for the Wall Street Journal). Watch the rapid eye blinking. Whenever he's speaking, he blinks like crazy, but as soon as he stops and is listening to Keith, he behaves normally. Either this guy has tremendous anxiety about speaking in general which only manifests itself when he's actually talking, or there's a lot of deception going on. It's not a problem with lights or contact lenses or anything like that, since the rapid blinking only occurs when he's actually talking and seems to lessen during certain passages.

nomination and Harwood was saying that Lugar wouldn't have said there's going to be a 10-8 vote in committee to confirm Bolton if he wasn't sure he had the votes. Basically, most of his responses sounded like Republican spin to me and the blinking indicated that he knew he was talking out his ass.

Harwood has been interviewed before on Countdown and I don't recall having seen the rapid blinking before but I don't always look at the TV when Countdown is on, so I might have missed earlier episodes of the blinking. I'll be sure to pay close attention the next time he's on.

who surely KNEW he was lying AND trying to please the nasty types in the blivet** administration. If he weren't a neocon appeaser I'd almost feel sorry for him, but nah, he deserves to suffer from what tiny fossilized residue of conscience he has left.

Very bad that Keith had to have this blivet**-kissup on his show just like he had to have that guy to shoot down the new "Gannon" WH visit info. MSNBC is definitely being pressured into conformity with the neocon party line and he's an employee. At least HE isn't doing the lying. What an awful position he finds himself in - hosting these lying creeps and having to cover bliterhing nonsence like the MJ circus and the Runaway Bride. No wonder he washed his hands of it by selling those puppets on ebay for a charity that had special personal importance to him.

Sad for Keith, but he's still doing a great service by getting out the small amount of truth that he's allowed to speak.

210. But of course!
But when, like, ALL -- ok, 90% -- of the guys at the wedding are gay -- well, raising hell just doesn't have quite the same zing. :7

199. Did you notice the way he phrased that last statement?
After asking if there was any "paperwork" involved, he said he thought he'd save his born-again virginity for his wedding.

Or at least he was contemplating it.

Which means, if you look at it a certain way, he's decided...what the hey! Might as well!!

As for those kittens...they were just too adorable. And Keith is right, they WILL get their vengeance on that squirrel someday! "Mother always liked YOU best! RrrrrowRRRR!"

209. I took his "contemplation" to mean he thinks
both events (wedding and re-virginization) seem equally unlikely to occur, which gives us a hint as to how his love life isn't going these days.

...OH, you mean the AUCTION. Of course.

Never mind! :-)

Glad you had a productive meeting, crispi! I guess there's always hope, huh?

176. Abrams tie check:
Not bad yet again! Gold tie and blue suit -- is he cribbing from Keith? There's something vaguely familiar about that ensemble. I'm impressed! The wardrobe continues to improve!

Sigh. If they keep this up I'm going to miss saying nasty things about his ties. I have several well-sharpened, pithy remarks in store that I haven't been able to use yet!

Sure seems to be spending an eternity in pre-production, does it not? I thought it was just going to be another garden-variety people shouting at each other "talk show" -- how much planning do you need for that?

"something" is going on at MSNBC, what with the one manager moving out and the new guy they hired and the Carlson show taking a looooong time to show up and the death of the News Quiz (I'm still :( about that) and so on. Hope all works out well for our big guy.

Too true about Tucker Carlson. I'll be more than happy to roundly abuse his sartorial choices, including those snippy little ties. He's a dweeb anyway. I was starting to feel bad about picking on Abrams; he strikes me as a decent guy, but if you wear ties THAT bad, you're gonna get called out. :7

186. you can diss his clothes without saying he's a bad person
and Lord, some of those ties were truly painful to see. I do wonder what's going on at MSNBC, but the death of the News Quiz might be something that KO himself wanted; perhaps he was growing bored with it. Maybe they thought most of the viewers were losing interest, based on the number of people who sent in questions. Maybe he traded death of the News Quiz, something he was neutral about or liked only a little, to retain something else that was more important to him. And killing the News Quiz means we see Monica now only as a news correspondent and not so much as Perky Girl the game show hostess; perhaps that's a consideration, too. But I miss the Quiz, too, because it's the only time we got to see him totally spontaneous and off script and the goofy facial expressions when Monica threw him a curve ball were simply priceless.

I just try to restrict the catty to the completely deserving. Like politicians whom I have a bone to pick with. Like that complete BITCH Mary Denny who got married ON THE HOUSE FLOOR the day after Joe Moreno died, did you hear about that? :( She probably had to get married ASAP; she was worried she'd have a runaway GROOM on her hands. I mean, she's not exactly Love's Young Dream herself.

(MEEEOW! See what I mean about the catty!)

I miss the News Quiz. It was fun to see him and Monica pick on each other. And I liked Monica doing the news quiz. We don't get much sense of her personality in her short segments; she's really very smart and funny but in her segments she's sort of Generic Newsgirl.

Oh well. I just wish they would TELL us what happened, but ours is not to question why, eh?

197. sure, we can ask. And I do miss seeing Monica's personality.
I wish they'd give her a shot at anchoring the next time Keith's away. I think she's probably got better snark than Alison. And you're right, one of the things I liked best about the News Quiz was the banter between Monica and Keith. If he ever decides to do part of the show with a co-host, she'd make a great partner.

207. gk, remember back at the beginning of the blue jammies quiz, Keith said--
. . . he ran into Tucker Carlson at the Food Trough, and that Tucker said (about the quiz) "She's very good in that!" and then KO predicted that Carlson's show would be one long News Quiz.

Gidget may get another shot at that role after all!

208. Has anyone else hit upon my theory yet?
Edited on Tue May-10-05 12:39 AM by BerryBush
Do you recall that when the last News Quiz aired, the first thing said about it was that Tucker Carlson liked it??? And Keith said "Watch. His new show--a 90-minute version of it!" And his last joke as he was wrapping it up ("Until next time...if there IS a next time"--which sadly, there was not!) was that it was "sponsored by the new Tucker Carlson show"?

It explains it all!

Tucker Carlson's show obviously IS a version of the News Quiz!

Keith, knowing he could do nothing about it, simply gave up his own!

Oh, and the reason Tucker's show is taking so long in pre-production is that it's taking him *that* long to study up on current events.

214. I don't think so.
That may be where Carlson's show is headed, but Keith's News Quiz segment was a once-a-week-5-minutes-long-for-fun thing. That's a little like saying Countdown might as well not exist because other shows cover most of the same news stories. I don't see that getting bumped by Carlson's show (which is slated for a 60-minute slot, 5 days a week), even if Carlson's show is about current events. And if Carlson's been studying all this time, some of what he's learned is already out of date. When's he gonna graduate?

(For those w/out QuickTime: Keith tries several times to speak and ultimately gives up hope of expressing what he feels about Bush's gaffe. And, P.S., what ever became this lovely silver tie, which he used to wear with the grey suit?)

220. I think he gave the silver tie up for the Anti-Tie
the tie which mocketh our Tie and thus completes his ensemble of defiance. He wears the Unloved Garments to taunt us and the Anti-Tie is an important part of the ensemble. At least it's not something he borrowed from Abrams...

226. Sorry I missed you guys last night
Computer was down again -- it's so frustrating. But, I did get to watch the whole show from the same room as the TV, so it wasn't a total loss. Great show -- that kitty was so cute with the squirrel!

And that mayor from Spokane should be hung out to dry. I think he's just the tip of the iceberg of the Republican anti-gay hypocrites.

The auction is a hoot -- I understand the bidding was up to $14,000 at some point last night, but is probably higher by now.

I know I won't be around tonight or tomorrow night, but hopefully I'll see you all on Thursday for at least a little while.
