You guys I know this has nothing to do with KO but........
I am so freaked I have to post in the clubhouse.

The section of retaining wall that fell onto the Henry Hudson Parkway in Manhattan today at 4 pm is in the park where I would take my children to when we lived a block away. They spent every nice day for five years in that playground. It is literally about 300 ft. away from the collapsed wall.

I am so glad they were putting in new sidewalks and so the park seems to have been closed off. During a nice day there would have been children in that sandbox when it happened. 1 hour later and there would have been hundreds of cars right underneath the falling debris on the highway heading towards the George Washington Bridge.

I don't know how they can tell this early that noone was injured. The area is too unstable to go in with thermal imaging equipment.

1. Hey Bunny
it might have something to do with KO--what highway would he have to take to get to NJ? I'm really good with NYC street navigation in so far as being able to walk from Point A to Point B but have no idea how you get on and off the Island.

2. He probably is spending the night in Secaucus.
Even if he took Route 3 which leads directly to the Lincoln Tunnel or Hoboken he'd still hit the mother of all traffic jams at any entrance to the city.

5. Oh wow--not good.
I guess y'all saw the story too about the Railroad bridge fire in NJ too. Is there some sort of conspiracy going on to make life difficult for NYC commuters?????

7. The life of a NYC commuter is difficult at best. This stuff borders on the
ridiculous.

I had just called my best friend to see if she and her mini cooper were stuck in that traffic from hell, she reassured me that she'd taken the train in to Penn Station so no worries.

I turn on the news a couple of hours later and see that her train out of Penn Station would have been diverted to Newark with delays for hours. So hopefully her husband picked her up there or she hopped the train before the bridge fire. It was too late to call her to find out when she got home or if.

So glad I don't work there anymore and my husband quit working there right after the first World Trade Center bombing. He worked there then. I made him quit.

I can't figure it out. I was only half listening to the report and my ears perked up when I heard "Westchester".

where the heck was that?

9. Amy, I'm not familiar w/ the area - so I'll just write what he said ...
. . .

"A 50-ft. section of a retaining wall above the Henry Hudson Pkwy gave way just before rush hour, spilling dirt, trees & boulders onto an entrance ramp and to a lesser degree onto the Parkway itself.

"This is a primary artery into suburban Westchester County. The scene is just up from the George Washington Bridge. . . .

"Nobody believed trapped in there; of course, they're not sure."

6. Thank you Crispini.
I'm just worried about the people in the evacuated building. I don't trust it to be safe. The rest of that wall may be ready to go.
