MSNBC update: CHENEY's office KNEW Plame's work was sensitive
MSNBC update: Cheney's office knew Plame's work was sensitive

RAW STORY
Published: Tuesday May 2, 2006

On Chris Matthews' Hardball Tuesday evening, MSNBC correspondent David Shuster provided updates on what RAW STORY first reported in February: that outed CIA officer Valerie Plame Wilson was working on Iran at the time she was outed.

Shuster's Tuesday report suggested that the Office of Vice President Dick Cheney was aware of the sensitivity of Plame's work, though there are no indications he knew she was working on Iran. His report Monday, which can be read here was the first television report to identify Plame's Iran work.

RAW STORY's Larisa Alexandrovna broke the story earlier this year, which went unnoticed by the mainstream media (Read our full story).

According to current and former intelligence officials, Plame Wilson, who worked on the clandestine side of the CIA in the Directorate of Operations as a non-official cover (NOC) officer, was part of an operation tracking distribution and acquisition of weapons of mass destruction technology to and from Iran.

1. is it possible they knew dam well the impact the outing
would have, and did it on purpose? Engineering a war is their specialty.

3. That thought crossed my mind, too
Not only did they destroy Plame's career, they also destroyed a great part of this country's ability to find out what is really going on within Iran. Since this bunch would rather suppress information than acknowledge and/or report it, this may have indeed been a "two birds with one stone" sort of operation.

And now it's beginning to approach the level of treason.

7. I think it more than approaches treason
I think it IS treason. But then, I am no legal expert.

Some would call that involvement a "Nuclear Walmart". Read my signature.

19. Now you are talking about motives that make sense. It never
quite seemed appropriate that Cheney and Bush would risk so much just to get back at Plame's husband. That was probably a smoke screen to cover up their real motives.

9. My initial reaction as well...
sadly, it's definitely a possibility. Iran, I think, has always been on their agenda.
When I'm not consumed by anger, I'm overwhelmed with despair. I want my country back - the one with the warts, yes - but with the decent heart at its centre.

12. Possible? It was the POINT!
The "revenge" angle is only the cover for the true purpose of Plame's outing. The BushCo crusade to bomb Iran only validates that notion. When Plame went down, so did the US Operation most able to accurately assess the level of dangerousness by the countries PNAC wanted to invade. When you have pesky CIA Operations telling you things you don't want to hear, it's best to just take them out. Who cares if you are hurting National Security when your whole platform is National Security? Blowing up countries always makes us feel better...more patriotic...you know what I mean.

13. It's the FUD principle
Fear, uncertainty and doubt.

The more you have FUD, the more you can make up any "facts" that make the people believe what YOU want.

Good intelligence just screws up the FUD factor.

17. I absolutely agree. The silencing of Plame and all of Brewster Jennings'
operations in gathering WMD intelligence and monitoring the illegal, traitorous deals by the cabal was far more important to them than the smearing of Joe Wilson after the fact. Calling all those reporters, all the discussions - it has the feel of desperation. I also suspect Peace Patriot was right in the suggestion months ago that another reason for the outing was to block any real intelligence concerning a planned planting of WMDs in Iraq - see linked threads in this post:

2. Why does this Administration get to seemingly change all the rules?
Reality and "the law" is what they say it is?

Is there no integrity within the ranks of our Republican Representatives?

When is enough truly ENOUGH?!?

I would assume he knew exactly who Valerie Plame was, and probably even spoke to her.

24. I made that connection too! Was she getting too close to some info
that Cheney wanted kept secret or was he pissed that the CIA was saying that Iran was years away from being able to make the "bomb"?

He was miffed, and outed her out.

P.S. Don't know the real answer, but we can speculate!

6. Holy crap!
In the second article that Novak published re Plame he went out of his way to specifically mention her front company, Brewster Jennings. Wow. This seems to suggest cheney's criminal intent for crimes much larger than illegally passing classified info. Wow.

8. Just like Iraq
Want to start a war ........ get rid of the intel you don't like.

Just like Iraq was years in the making Iran is the next step in the Neo Con
PNAC wet dream.

Treason and manipulation of data so as to get into another war.

I wonder how the Duke Rape case is going?

to the Irani nuclear program. Could it be that Herr Chaney was somehow complicit in some WMD chicanery?

21. wasn't that DISGUSTING? I couldn't believe they were putting that
kind of spin on it:

they were SO incompetent they didn't bother to find out what "that mere woman at the CIA" was doing that they didn't realize that what they were doing was highly illegal??????

what the FUCK???!!!????

my first thought was.....OK, what do they have on ODonnell, and why, again, is Olbermann sitting there taking the spoonfed conventional wisdom, just as he did with stubby-teeth Milbank last night?

what gives?

22. my best guess is
It is not Keith's doing. He is way too smart to believe that bullshit. I believe it was a producer's decision from on high (remember this is GE) to stop the plame leak stories from being such good reporting. I am sure Shuster will be shut up next. :(

26. One might consider it
as spoon-feeding the public information. They have to do it in such a way that it isn't going to overwhelm the audience, or those who make policy decisions for MSNBC. While those on DU are not shocked to hear that the OVP/WHIG damaged the single intelligence unit monitor and track the distribution of WMD components in Iran, the general public isn't quite there .... yet.

Keith O., like Chris M. and David S., is aware of what has happened. But their place of employment creates limitations on how they can tell the story. Yet the truth is coming to light.

of Joe Wilson and wife entering the reception at the WHCD? He stopped for a minute to talk to one reporter....and that reporter was none other than David Shuster.
