I voted for Kerry - dont blame me for Alito |
|
While I am extremely disappointed that there is a good chance that Alito will get on the bench, I am not suicidal over it. I have done everything from voting for Senator Kerry, donating to democratic causes, protesting the religious right at every chance i get, and lobbying for pd disease research. In short I have done everything humanly possible to fight the right wing establishment and will continue to do so by voting for the Democrat. While Senator Kerry was not my first choice for the party I nonetheless supported him. Why because I knew what was at stake, the supreme court. So I was wondering how many are truly mad over Alito's nomination or because you voted for a different candidate in the presidential. Or didn't vote as the case may well. Elections have consequences this is the big one folks. At least no matter how bad things will get with a right wing court I will take solace in the fact that I did everything to get Senator Kerry elected. Why? Because despite his faults - hey he's a human being after all- Senator Kerry's choice for the court would have been a hell of a lot better than the chimps.

And my state (Oregon) was smart enough to go for Kerry. Too bad we had some stupid brainwashed states that didn't.
But confirmation of Alito or not, the Dems still have my vote in 2006 and 2008.

7. My future votes are dependent upon a filibuster |
|
If I ever vote for another Democrat, it is completely dependent upon a filibuster on this nomination.

And I don't agree with that position but I'm sure you might reconsider it in the future as you have done so in the past.

I'm at the end. I'm to the finale. I've had all I can stand, I can't stand no more.
When I proclaimed NBD it was in direct ersponse to the ABD movement that started here on DU.
This is my line in the sand. This far and no further. I will not stand for any more scrapiong and crawling by the aprty I am a member of. This is it.

|
Let's say Wes Clark was the nominee in 2008 but this crop of dems we got now didn't fillibuster Sammy. I was wondering would you hold Wes accountable? I am not being confrontational I was just wondering.

13. No filibuster, no vote for any Dem at any level ever again. |
|
I will treat the Democratic Party like the Republican Party they are emulating.
I have never voted for a Republican in my life. If there is no filibuster, I will never again vote for any Democrat.
Third Party candidates will be my only acceptable candidates. If tehre are no third party candidates in any race, I will not cast a vote in that race.

3. Maybe the repugs need to get the America they've been |
|
clamoring for. One where women are dying from back alley abortions, the government is in your bedroom, your e-mail, your phone. One where our employers have no responsibility to treat us fairly; where our children can be stripped searched without probable cause; where corporations and the rich pay no taxes and the country's entire tax burden falls on the shoulders of the working class (no longer any "middle class") I could go on and on...

6. and those of who can will leave |
|
just like the liberal, well educated Germans fled Hitler's Nazi German.
We voted and Gore won and Bush was awarded the white house by a Supreme Court 5 including O'connor.
We voted and Kerry won and Bush stayed in the White house and has appointed right wing corporatist judges.
We voted and our vote doesn't count.
So I'm leaving -- I can see the writing on the wall.
I don't have children -- because I got married when Nixon was President and knew that someone much worse would come along.
I was right -- and now I'm outta here.

4. I was pretty snippy about this at work last night. |
|
A few coworkers, and one of the owners, were talking about Alito.
"I do hope they don't overturn abortion, though," one of them said.
"Oh, they can't do that, they won't do that," another answered.
"Like hell," I snipped. "You guys voted for Bush, and you guys are going to have to deal with the death of Roe v. Wade."
They shot a look at me as if I had six heads. "You don't know that," one of them said defensively.
"As sure as the sky is blue, I know that. But it's on you. My hands are clean, but I get to suffer along with the rest of you. Thanks!"

and that if we didnt get kerry in it would change the whole court. nothing we would be able to do about it. you are right danCa and thank you for the reality check. this is what the president gets to do, put the person he wants on the supreme court. why i impressed on the women so much how important it was they go out and vote, and vote for kerry and not bush.

i chose to let the american people and republicans and bush own their failure and not put on other people. i think what you are expecting of the dems with any sc appointee isn't realistic and not the way it works. i know you dont want it to be that way, i know you want more. i want world peace. i am not getting that either.
