Are we going to overlook the rights and feelings of millions of women because ONE woman who lives in a fucking GLASS HOUSE has her feelings hurt?

29. doesn't matter. my maiden name was a german name too, but |
|
my first husband wanted me to act like his mother and sisters-in-law. he used to say that my german/irish/american family was cold. when my uncle died my ex was shocked because my aunt got up and greeted everyone and walked them up to the casket. he said an italian woman would just sit in front and not move. he also said "i know if i died you would be so sad". i told him "don't flatter yourself". lol off the subject but i think we all need a little laugh today.

10. read Lindsay Graham's transcript |
|
basically Mrs. Alito is tired. Graham is appealing to pro-Alito people by saying despite Alito's joining CAP, it seems to LG that Alito is a good man and not a racist. I think Mrs. Alito just has had enough of this process. She really should leave the room if this is too emotional for her.

Of course, these are women in their later yrs these days (if they survived), and they are too ashamed / embarrassed to talk about it.
Plenty of women DIED.
I heard one woman on CSPAN talk about losing her mother at the age of 8 and being raised by her father. She was very frightened that we are moving back to those days and all the families that will suffer. I really, really felt for her.
I have a good friend whose mother died at 12 from what the family assumes was a botched abortion as well (her father died a yr later and he is the only one who knew for certain).
My grandmother told me two of her sisters-in-law had abortions (illegal) in the 30s. They survived, but both had serious medical complications that lasted for months and could not be treated because they feared prosecution.
These cretins act like the death and maiming of women is fiction.

46. It's been too long since that's happened. People don't know |
|
about that reality. So they're just hearing the anti abortion side of things. If we had women dying from botched abortions everyday-including women from these RWers families-they'd change their tune. I'm starting to feel like we're going to have to live that all over again. Now THAT'S something to cry about!!!

56. A caller on c-span this morning relayed how during the Depression |
|
her parents decided to abort when her mother became pregnant and there was no money for them to live, let alone another.
Her mother died from the amateur abortion and her father raised her and a sibling alone.
The irony is that during the Depression women who could not afford children could not afford a proper procedure, and many times did not have the connections to gain one.
Women who were fully financially capable of raising a dozen children could get an abortion here or overseas, having the money and the means.
PLEASE GET RID OF ALITO NOW.
NOW.
NOW.
No more fucking around with this stuff. Filibuster the clueless freak.

40. Thank you. Luckily she survived with yrs of medical treatment |
|
behind her. She was on a colostomy bag for more than three yrs. Her botched abortion injury was a perforated colon which became almost fatally infected. This is the most common physical injury during an illegal abortion. Her internal organs grew together - egads.
That time was absolute hell for our family. My aunt and my cousin moved in with us so I got to watch the fallout first hand for many, many years. In fact, she never really recovered fully - she STILL lives with my mom and still has medical problems. She was also financially devastated.
At least she lived, so we are very grateful for that.

I can't forget that her husband belongs (or belonged) to CAP, an org. that fought against women and minorities attending Princeton. Gee, has she not realized her daughter is female? Or was it the recounting of the strip-search of the 10-yr-old that did her in? No, that was yesterday. Maybe the mentally challenged man being raped with a broom handle and her husband denying him his day in court over "procedure" upset her?
Somehow I doubt it.

In other words, deluded.

|
This obsessive attention to the behavior of this woman is simply,...a waste of time and energy.
I really don't give a shit whether her behavior was feigned or not.
What's important is that Alito is dangerous as a justice because he has ALWAYS sucked up to the extreme right-wing which advocates excessive power to the executive,...a power which destroys our government as we know it. THAT'S WHAT'S IMPORTANT.
Her behavior is merely a distraction from that extremely important aspect of this appointment.

59. Crying at SCOTUS Senate hearings? It's become the thing to do. |
|
Clarence Thomas did it -- choking up over the "high-tech lynching" he allegedly was being subjected to. Actually, he was just being subjected to witnesses' testimony of their horrible experiences with him. So they probably cried first.
Alito's Frau might also have cried, had SHE been subjected to his horrendously misogynistic rulings in the past.
And they all have those fake "They told me to smile" expressions on their faces -- mandatory for neoCons. Gale Norton wore hers so long, that I'm surprised her face didn't break during her hearing.
