National Hunger Awareness Day MAY 13th! Please pack a grocery bag for PU!

http://www.nalc.org/commun/foodrive/

Right now 38 million Americans aren't even sure where they will get their next meal.

Imagine not knowing how or where, or even when, you will eat your next meal.

National Hunger Awareness Day is the grassroots movement
to raise awareness about the solvable problem of hunger in America.

Date of 14th annual Food Drive announced

NALC President William H. Young encourages every NALC branch in the nation
to get involved in the 14th annual NALC National Food Drive held annually
on the second Saturday in May.

In 2006, the date will be May 13th <-----!!

Bil Keane, creator of The Family Circus, will devote one of his daily
cartoons to the drive again.
He has already prepared the art for the event.

Tuesday, June 6, 2006 will mark the fifth year of observing this movement.

All kinds of activities will take place in communities across America.

To focus attention on the persistent problem of domestic hunger, the

National Association of Letter Carriers again this year is joining
in support of this special day.

NALC branches are encouraged to join in National Hunger Awareness Day events
in their communities.

For more information and ideas on what you can do on June 6,

Campbell Soup Will Help Stamp Out Hunger With Food Drive May 13th

On Saturday, May 13, Campbell Soup Co. will join forces with the
National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) to "Stamp Out Hunger!" across America.

"Stamp Out Hunger!" is the nation's largest single-day food drive, having collected
more than 695 million pounds of food since its inception in 1993.

To help "Stamp Out Hunger!,"
simply leave a sturdy bag containing non-perishable foods,
such as canned soup, canned vegetables, pasta, rice or cereal next to your mailbox
>>>> prior to the time of regular mail delivery on May 13. <<<<
Food items should be in non-breakable containers, such as boxes and cans.

The nation's 240,000 letter carriers will then collect donations from homes across
the country and deliver them to food bank members of America's Second Harvest --
The Nation's Food Bank Network and other hunger relief organizations in more
than 10,000 local communities.

"Hunger remains a critical issue in the United States," said William H. Young,
NALC president. "We see it on many of the routes that we walk every day, but with
donations from our generous customers and partners like Campbell Soup Co.,
I know we can make a tangible difference in the fight against hunger."

According to America's Second Harvest,

38 million people are food insecure, hungry or at risk of hunger.

Approximately one in four people in a soup kitchen line is a child....

Remember to help us "Stamp Out Hunger!" on Saturday, May 13th!"

For more information about "Stamp Out Hunger!" in your community,
ask your letter carrier, contact your local post office
or visit

2. My postman left a bag
for me to fill up and put out on the 13th - I'm in Seattle, and they're calling it the Letter Carriers Food Drive. An easy way to help, no heavy lifting. If you're in Seattle and you didn't get a blue bag, call your post office and your letter carrier will bring you one.

3. Cool! I checked for my...
... town but I don't see them listed... that's odd! I know they did it last year.
Maybe they missed the registration date to be listed on the web.
I'm going to drop by there tomorrow and see if they are doing it!
I'll just use a paper bag with handles, I guess! Not a problem!
Or I'll just bring some stuff to my local food pantry!
