Excesses of the rich and famous |
|
Edited on Sun May-07-06 09:19 PM by CatholicEdHead
While flipping through channels I came across an appaling series on the WE network. "Daddy's Spoiled Little Girl" shows the excesses of the rich and famous. I only made it through the first part and there was already $20K dropped for a single birthday party for 170 guests. Looking at the website this is one of the cheaper episodes, the other ones look to have much more execesses. :puke: http://www.we.tv/article?CID=key%3D663%26tzOffset%3D0Preview clips: http://live.video.rainbow-media-online.com/video.jsp?video_id=4925&template_id=22&subcategory_id=1382

3. It is on a channel devoted to women |
|
so maybe it is a way for the middle class and upper middle class to get envy and try to "keep up with the Joneses". They are glamorizing the "good life". I guess women are more attracted to things like this than men with all the glitz and partying.

They got the money, they can spend it however they want no matter how wasteful us non-rich may find it.
I hope someday I find a way to become financially successful enough to have that much money too.

4. Well, I Would Like To Think |
|
that you, as a DU'er...and thus, presumably a liberal...would find better and more worthwhile things to spend your money on, if you ever became that wealthy.
I know I sure would. For me, it would start with running a non-profit, no-kill shelter for dogs. I would then offer scholarships and apprenticeships for caring for these animals to welfare recipients who wished to learn a new trade/skill...even send them all the way thru vet school if they wanted that...and thus, help our animal friends...and our people, too.
Furthermore, I would likely do some charitable giving to our welfare agencies so that more people who need help could get it. And it would all come in the form of hand-ups...so that, one day, the recipients of this aid could become self-sufficient, happy, proud, productive citizens with a future that had hope.

5. Actually, I'd Spend It How I'd Want To. |
|
If part of that meant spending lavishly on a bday party so be it. Sure, I'd donate to worthy causes as well, as I do now, and would make sure much of my money was used wisely. But if I had that much, then I would also have enough to spend on things that had no significance whatsoever, and would do so freely. And that additional money I'd have to use on whatever I wanted, would be none of anyone else's damn business but my own, and would most definitely not make me any less of a liberal for doing so.
If money like that is to them what spending 40 bucks on a quick dinner out is for us, then unless you never go out to dinner, and give every spare dime you have to liberal causes, then you have no leg to stand on preaching to others about how they have to spend their discretionary income that way or risk being guilt tripped into not being as liberal.
They have money, and they can spend it however they want. If I had money like that then sure, I'd donate heavily. But I'd also enjoy the hell out of my wealth and spend lavishly at times as well. Ain't got a damn thing to do with politics in my opinion.

you are donating heavily, then I don't see a problem with that. It's the selfish ones who donate nothing, and just spend lavishly on selfish things I have a problem with.
then again, this is just my own $.02 worth, and hey...what do I know? Just my own opinion.
Obviously...it is their money, however they made it, and they have a right to spend it as they see fit...but I will think less of them as people if they do not spend a goodly portion of it on worthwhile causes to benefit those less fortunate.

9. It's a rich guy and his daughter... |
|
Even if you're middle class, if you're a father you spoil your daughter just not as lavishly and probably not as much with material things.
It is a crappy theme for a show though. Symbolic but crappy.
