1. If they can do it for POLITICAL reasons
they will... it has nothing to do with the situation on the ground or any rational... but if that is what it takes to KEEP congress... I guess they will TRY

2. Funny, when I heard it
I thought just the opposite. How many times in the rent weeks has Bushit said we are not leaving until the job is done. The situation over there is dire and won't get better for a long time, if ever. Won't everyone see right through this as political?

3. We are never going to leave Iraq
Hell...we still have combat troops in Japan and Germany. And that war ended 60 years ago.

I wish I can find the website again, but I looked at a website that showed where our troops are located all over the world. Each country that had American troops in it had a color that stood for how many US troops are in that particular nation. It was a very colorful globe.
We are in every mid-east nation except Iran, Syria, and Egypt. We are in every European country. We are in Japan, Korea, and all over the pacific. We are scattered around South America and Africa.

There is not a region on this globe we are not in. And yes...if there is a nation where our troops are located, you can bet our corporations are there as well.

5. Staffing the Embassy doesn't count
I was referring to combat troops. Someday we can all go see what $300 BILLION and way to many lives bought.

8. It's not so much an embassy as a self-sufficient fortress
In the environment they're building that baby to withstand, it'll need protecting by American troops.

9. I can't imagine how they...
...expect that embassy to be safe without a considerable number of American troops to guard it.

As long as the PNAC driven Neocons are in power, we're not leaving the Middle East.

15. It will need security, it's very large and it's in a hostile environment
I'm not going to hold my breath untill combat troops are withdrawn from Iraq and brought home.

10. Most likely....cause it's all about politics....ya know!
I've been saying for quite some time now, that Bush would pull out enough to get those "Hugging" photo ops, and buoy his sagging numbers.....just in time for election 2006!

Very transparent...but then it all is; still not many seem to "notice".

11. A reduction in the # of troops in Iraq could serve 2 purposes
And remember, they are not talking about LEAVING Iraq, just reducing the number of troops deployed in Iraq.

1) For political reasons; upcoming elections

2) If they bomb/nuke Iran, they don't want all of the troops in Iraq where they will be sitting ducks for a massive retaliation by the Iranians.

The bush* cabal is going nowhere--everything is just smoke & mirrors.

12. those 14 massive military bases will have to be manned by someone
Chicago Tribune March 23, 2004
14 `enduring bases' set in Iraq
Long-term military presence planned
In-Depth Coverage
By Christine Spolar
http://www.globalsecurity.org/org/news/2004/040323-enduring-bases.htm

From the ashes of abandoned Iraqi army bases, U.S. military engineers are overseeing the building of an enhanced system of American bases designed to last for years.

Last year, as troops poured over the Kuwait border to invade Iraq, the U.S. military set up at least 120 forward operating bases. Then came hundreds of expeditionary and temporary bases that were to last between six months and a year for tactical operations while providing soldiers with such comforts as e-mail and Internet access.

Now U.S. engineers are focusing on constructing 14 "enduring bases," long-term encampments for the thousands of American troops expected to serve in Iraq for at least two years. The bases also would be key outposts for Bush administration policy advisers.
