Should I Cancel AT&T?
I was considering switching long distance providers anyways. Should I dump them, and tell the reason why I'm doing so? That I don't like my information being given by them to the government?

The News.com survey, started Jan. 25, found that wireless providers and cable companies were the most likely to distance themselves from the NSA. Cingular Wireless, Comcast, Cox Communications, Sprint Nextel and T-Mobile said they had not turned over information or opened their networks to the NSA without being required by law.

Who's helping the NSA?

CNET News.com asked telecommunications and Internet companies about cooperation with the Bush administration's domestic eavesdropping scheme. We asked them: "Have you turned over information or opened up your networks to the NSA without being compelled by law?"

19. I switched from SWB to Cox in Oct. last year
and then I heard something about how SWB & Cox had a connection. I would like to know also. I switched totally to Cox for internet, phone and cable since Rupert took over Directv. Not sure there is an answer except to throw the bastards out of office and start over. Congress has gone lock step with the bushco organization, money, money, money for the few.

15. same here
I just canceled them again last week.Went with the cable co. for every thing.
I hate AT&T,customer service is awful.
About15- 20 years ago if you made a complaint they would tell you "You have a choice you don't need to have a phone." I swore I would never use them again.

6. And switch to Verizon? They are no better
Or BellSouth? They have their hand in the dog's mouth, as well.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2006-05-10-nsa_x.htm?csp=34

About the only thing we can do is call each other, millions of us, every day, and instead of answering the phone "HELLO?" instead say "OSAMA, SADDAM, Nine One One, JIHAD...how may I help you?"

It's obscene. Bush is turning the country into a bunch of angry Luddites.

Please join the organized boycott (see thread here at DU).

We're trying to organize a listing of pro-American, patriotic telecommunication companies that people can switch to.

You can take your current wireless phone number to your new Working Assets Wireless service, depending on availability in your area.
Switch time will vary depending on previous carrier.

and after the guy on the phone was finally able to understand what the hell I was talking about,he emphatically told me that Cox does give our PRIVATE info for this totally ILLEGAL program (By the way,how come right wingers ONLY understand the word ILLEGAL when it refers to Mexicans but not to Bush?) I have the "whole digital enchilada" with these people, and if I find out they lied,I will dump them.

Edited on Thu May-11-06 12:04 PM by lyonn
but I was hoping when I switched to Cox for all services that they were not as bad as Murdock, ATT, etc. We don't have that many choices. We golden oldies have a problem dealing with the new tech details. If I must choose I would rather pick the lesser of the evils, and get rid of Directv. Throw the bastards out of Congress. Hostility is truly setting in. We are being raped and are supposed to enjoy it.

Edit: Thanks for correcting the info. I feel a bit better. Is there hope?

I don't need no stinkin "backbone provider"! I have Cingular prepaid myself. Incidentally Cingular does not act out against their employees from joining unions.

31. I've been delighted with
my Cox service and my Sprint cellular. I've had no problems of any kind with either of them. I'm so happy to see they both said NO to the NSA.

I use SBC/AT&T for local landline service only. They would be history but for my monitored alarm system. Have to re-do my contract to switch to cellular monitoring. And that is not in the cards right now since I am job hunting and may possibly re-locate.
