Why did NSA spying details go public today??
We all know the WH controls the flow of information....and about something like this.....they're sure to have a pretty tight grip. So at first I started thinking they leaked it on purpose, but then couldn't follow that thought process to how it would be to their advantage.

So then I thought maybe someone at the NSA or CIA got the info out there - someone who's had enough of the monkey business and doesn't want Hayden as CIA head. I have to believe they're not all crooks.

28. I was wondering if this wasn't "leaked" in this timely manner by someone
who is really concerned about who may be the next head of the CIA.

3. Didn't the investigation of the NSA end yesterday?
meaning no investigation, because of "national security"?

4. Yes - the investigators were denied security clearances -
so the probe ended; they couldn't get the info they needed.

5. I am sure that is certainly part of it.
Moreover, these are the kinds of things that tend to come out when laws and ethical standards are being broken wholesale, by an administration that has the kind of pol numbers and poll trendlines that this one has.

The upcoming elections are part of it as well.

You can be certain that there are a lot of people, who work for certain agencies, who are deeply disturbed with what is happening there and have grave ethica concerns. They didn't sign up for this duty. With the elections coming, look for more of this. It's only gonna be more frequent and toxic for the repukes.

Now you know why many of us say: "Drip, drip, drip...". It's the natural state of things.

6. I think it was to derail Hayden...
I believe completely there have been people behind the scenes in the intel community who have been leaking important information in an attempt to save our country from disaster.

I think this is one of those times.

11. Is this, plus Hayden, designed to give Repugs a way to "fight" Dear
Leader and regain their popularity in time for '06? I mean, it's a group already known to be willing to do whatever it takes to win an election (or at least get it close enough to steal with credibility) - so, why not throw Jr under the bus - he's already at 31%, sink him down to 25% and let Frist and McCain and other Repugs put on a big show about taking care of real Americans to get re-elected.

12. The USA Today article is
a disinformation campainge. Investigators in the press have begun looking at this. It is designed to deflect information away from the real focus on the equiptment being used, that will yield information on what they are up to. It is designed to "head off at the pass" these investigations before they go public, probably later this week. The "well connected sources" would like the public to believe this is just a program to create a data base of the routing of phone calls and nothing else.

17. Bingo!
You're absolutely correct, sparosnare! This is part of the ongoing war between the CIA establishment and Bushco. I expect the Chimp's numbers to be in the 20's when the next poll is taken.

My only question, is why are some Democratic Politicians still afraid to take a principaled stand against the Chimperor

If they don't really start yelling after today, then I'll have to start thinking they're part of the problem too. It's time they stood up for us - and not just Democrats - every American citizen who's rights are being taken away. It's their duty.

29. I've thought of that - Nixon spied on his political opponents.
A lot of the people in charge today were carry-overs from that administration....I've often wondered if they decided to do it right this time, since it failed then. Along with others who weren't there then of course.

Spying on the 'enemy', or in this case political adversary is exactly what they would do, and then use the information to their advantage.
