Networks plan stakeout of Fitzgerald court Friday; No formal sign of indictment

"Reporters at the major cable television networks plan to be on the ground Friday outside a federal district court where the jury considering the fate of President Bush's senior adviser Karl Rove.

No formal indication has been given of Rove's status, though lawyers close to the case have said his fate is likely to be determined soon. Special Counsel Patrick J. Fitzgerald, who is investigating the outing of CIA officer Valerie Plame, is scheduled to meet with the grand jury in the case Friday.

The major networks plan to have reporters live on the ground, a senior reporter said.

Two White House reporters covering the case said they had not heard anything about new Rove developments, though they confirmed that the grand jury is scheduled to meet."cont...

1. I shudder to think
what kind of "distraction" the administration has planned to divert everyone's attention in case the indictment does in fact come down on Friday.

2. Really?? and no one knows!
I love the bit about the
"Two White House reporters covering the case said they had not heard anything about new Rove developments, though they confirmed that the grand jury is scheduled to meet."

Only the Raw Story reporter knows, apparently.
Look, I'm not dissing Raw Story or Truthout, but I have had quite enough of these reports about what's going to happen in a absolutely leak-proof investigation.
No one knows!! It's all speculation. Nothing more.

5. Waiting for Friday ....
Let's take a look back in time, to when people were waiting for some old-fashioned Friday indictments. Perhaps we could start with the 10-26 Hardball. Mr. Matthews was speaking to, among others, Mike Allan from Time.

MA: Well, Chris, there's a lot of dead horses being beaten here. But there is a lot of activity happening that we're not seeing. What a likely scenario for what happened today is Patrick Fitzgerald got some indictments from this grand jury. He now is able to go ...

CM: Oh, you think they're sealed right now?

MA: It's very possible. What I'm told is typically in a case like this, he could get indictments and now he can go back to the targets and say, you can plead to these or I'll go back Friday and get more. You have 12- to 24 hours to think about it.

CM: I think you get a little Whitman's sampler of suggestions like you can plead to the process charge of obstruction or perjury. Or --

MA: Or I can add a bunch of counts. You can take a couple of counts, we can do a bunch more. ....

CM: ...Are they willing, do you believe, to cut a deal?

MA: I don't know the answer to that.

CM: That requires an administration admission because they are part of an administration. So do they have to check with the president before they say, I'm going to plead guilty to any charge because that puts the president in the position of having a black mark against his White House.

6. From David Shuster:
(The Situation with Tucker Carlson; 12-14-05)

DS: The theory that Karl Rove only told the truth about disclosing information to reporter Matt Cooper when it was clear that Matt Cooper was going to be forced to testify.

9. FitzG.'s PlayBook
He seems to have a M.O. which he follows pretty seriously. That being so, it looks like we have the answers to what has been happening and what will be up next, unless Rove decides to choose himself and go for a deal.

11. That actually is ominous, very ominous for Rove.
A very faustian bargain as Rove can only go up to deal - Fitz already has the lateral players.

Please post a lot tomorrow H20Man - a whole lot! I actually bought more  today.

8. Why would the corporate press camp out on Friday, but not Wed?
Would they be closer to thier favorite cocktail lounges? Hmmmmm.

They may know of something via their bestest ever leak buddies, Luskin & Rove. Rove is obviously expecting a rendering of some sort because the corporate news media is not known for expending resources unless there is a very good reason. Fitzgerald's web page ought to be mighty interesting in the morning.

It would be wonderful to wake up tomorrow to "Rove Breaking News" here in California.

Could they have been given a quiet heads up? Not unheard of. Friends in the news biz often get these before announcements.

He actually said something about the GJ meeting tomorrow, also. We know they meet every Weds. and Fri., and that they don't always discuss Rove, but tonight he specifically said the "Leak GJ". Keeping everything crossed.
