Qwest wanted and requested a letter from the Attorney General verifying that the program was legal, but never got written assurance. Turley brought up James Comey refusing to declare the program legal and Ashcroft also balking.
This certainly raises red flags when top level Repubs did not approve or in the case of Gonzalez, would not officially sign off as to the legality.
