Amazing photos. "Enjoyed" them, respectful and awed by that power. Thanks for these.

I can't even relate to looking at those photos, and having the first thought out of me head be a cheesy joke. Course, I couldn't use the word 'enjoyed' either, even with a disclaimer.
When I was done looking at the photos I had a huge heavy feeling of sadness, and empathy of their losses, and spirit of wishing I had the ability to stop these storms from ever destroying everything a family has.
What I wasn't thinking about, was my bathroom or its difficulty in cleaning.

I tell you what, the next time something tragic happens in your family, let us know so we can make a joke of it. Jesus man, use some decent judgment will ya?

Perhaps you didn't read the message part; perhaps you didn't like a brief attempt at humor, which would not have been used if this had not simply been about the power of the tornado, but about human cost. To make that leap about me from one post says more about you than me, pal. You want to laugh about a tragedy in my family? You can have it. My daughter's grandfather and grandmother died this week four days apart. Go ahead, Mr. Sensitivity. Show us your stuff. Enjoy.

People put so much into their possessions and we mourn them like family. Personally, I wish I could move beyond that. My sister lost everything she owned in the Lake Arrowhead fires of 2003. Even having disaster come that close, I'm still not able to "divorce" my feelings from my antiques, books, etc. We would all be better off not being so materialistic in the years ahead.
Those beautiful old vehicles! The love that went into their restoration... all gone.
Thanks for the reflection fodder.

9. tornado passed 6 houses away when I was a child, missed us &best friend |
|
friend lived 3 blocks away and the path missed both of us. I remember looking at the rubbled house, seeing plumbing sticking up. My mother huddled under the stairs in the basement of our house with a 5 yr old, 3 yr old, 1 yr old and pg, probably very very very scared.

I live due East of where it hit. We were under tornado warnings until about 1 a.m. My weather radio was going nuts. One of my daughter's friends who goes to school in Denton called and was frantic because supposedly--according to reports--we had a tornado on the ground here and she couldn't get hold of her mom. She wanted us to get hold of her mother and wake her up. So we did. The tornado that was on the ground was out in the middle of nowhere and didn't do damage. I understand it just dipped out of the clouds. Was still about 10-15 miles from here--which in tornado time--is a long way. But we still had flashlights, I woke everyone up to put shoes on, and moved some pillows and blankets to the hallway. Fortunately all we saw was rain and AMAZING sky to ground lightning. Was a scary night. I have no doubts we'll have more of those before it's over since we live in the heart of tornado alley.

17. yes i remember. do you have sirens? we have the radio too |
|
but our sirens if anything go off early. they dont miss around here. we have a basement that makes me feel a little, ok a lot better.
but what i noticed in those pictures is how sittin in the hallway works. the walls stayed up in hte interior of the house.
jsut have to look that the odds arent there. does make for a scary middle of night. my brother has an rv and was there. he said tornados were dropping all around him. wouldnt like that one.

My daughter said she heard them and a friend of hers said they heard them too. However, I don't think they ever went off. I think they were just hearing things.

20. Interesting question - will FEMA come to the rescue? |
|
After all, it is Texas, and there probably aren't any greedy development companies interested in the land.
Having said that, I feel for those people, and FEMA should come to the rescue, just like they should have come to the rescue of the Gulf Coast. I just wonder if it will be handled differently since it is shrub's state.
