FR: "Rosary For Souls That Will Be Lost RE: Da Vinci Code"
LOL!!! This is a hilarious thread for a lot of reasons, including all the literary critics who HAVE NOT AND WILL NOT READ THE BOOK and the fact that the Rosary people get mad at the "discussions" taking place as they want everyone to TYPE the rosary or something? OMG...they're like "this is a DEVOTIONAL fr thread, the moderators said it is just like being in church, so don't talk in church!"

Egads what a bunch of nuts....

1. So what are they afraid of?
These people are big time screwed up. A book is going to cause them harm?

17. I would imagine a very good book has caused them
a lot of harm already.

Not that it's the book's fault.

2. How hard is it to grasp the concept of fiction?
I mean really, the phony hype surrounding this book / movie just gets stupider and stupider.

3. Re:
I'm a Christian myself. I don't see what the big problem is.

Even if the facts in The Da Vinci Code are erroneous, what's wrong with inciting people to think about issues related to Jesus?

A lot of fundies have campaigned hard against this movie. You have to wonder why they're so scared. Could it be that the movie might actually make someone think about theological issues?

You're right. Right-wing and fundamentalism is a REALLY bad combination.

16. Because secretly they believe God has lost control
and He needs their help to get it back. They are afraid and anything that challenges the foundations of their beliefs brings up that scary feeling again that God is going to yell at them and squish them like a bug.

Now who hates who for who's freedom??? I really think many church-goers need to learn to think outside the indoctrinated box. They are so caught up in ritual and interpretation and have no mind for meditation and ponderance. After all, how can you listen to God if you spend your whole time talking and filling your mind with words, words and more words.

35. What a wonderful analysis!
God is so weak he or she needs their pathetic assistance to "take control" of the world again?

I was raised southern baptist and I am so glad I found my way out of that narrow-minded cult. I cringe when I consider what my life could have been with that.

4. LOL...
Edited on Fri May-12-06 01:10 AM by Scooter24
My mother started reading the book last week and recommended it. I believe in God and think of myself as an "ok" Christian, but don't believe that a movie or book can easily sway my belief or damn me to hell.

OTOH, I'm gay, so in their mindless world, I'm practically already in hell. So why not just live a little :)

Maybe I should pray for them?

7. Holy shit.
I don't know who's more stupid - the people insisting to their friends that the story is TRUTH, or the idiots who are taking religious measures to 'save' the poor, misguided viewers of the film/readers of the book.

It is FICTION. Why don't they just pray for EVERYONE who enjoys a book or a film while they're at it.

MOST people are just fans of good ol' fiction. Such as myself. On opening night, I'll be there. I guess they'd better pray for me, too!

God must have an ENORMOUS sense of humor.

8. Classic: The Freeper's Preist Is S-S-Scared Of DVC
According to freeper Sandyeggo, her pastor at St. Ephrem's Maronite Catholic Church, Fr. Nabil, believes that many souls will be lost as a result of this book. Thank you, Pyro, for an excellent suggestion. Our Blessed Mother hears our prayers and intercedes with her Son.

14. Yet they don't worry about denying the poor health and services?
Wasn't that a Commandment. Did Christ say anything about giving to the rich at the cost to the poor?

These people don't worry about that but worry about some book? These people are hilarious. Beyond belief.

15. Speaking as an ex-Catholic, do you know what these are called?
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us!
Mary, Mother of Perpetual Help, pray for us!
Our Lady of the Rosary, pray for us!

Ejaculations! I was taught that starting in 1st grade.

You know, they should do a "Catholic Schoolhouse Rock"...

"Ejaculations! For mercy! For lost causes! For special indulgencies!
They're special requests to the Saints or Jesus,
ending with an exclamation point or by a comma when the desperation's not as strong!"

32. Another ex-Catholic, here. I just think it's funny that
people who take a fictional book way too seriously are worried that people are going to read another fictional book based on their fictional book, and that then they're not going to believe the first fictional book anymore.

Confused yet?

"March of the Penguins" showed good Christian values because the penquins were monogamous!

I wonder if there will be people praying for the "lost souls" who go into the theater to see "Da Vinci Code."

but at least they aren't wishing them all in hell. They're trying to pray to keep them out. I think the concern is ridiculous but if they believe it at least they are trying to do a "nice" thing.

"Discover the "VILE" in the "Duh!"-Vinci Code, Sunday 7:00pm.

This outrage is crapola designed to inspire the faithful to come to church and contribute to the collection plate while they're at it.

how about someone tell these guys to quit praying rosaries over people going to see a movie and start praying rosaries over people who left the Church because the priests can't quit screwing little boys.

Just a thought....

Matthew 6:5-8

And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask Him.
