response from AT&T:
Edited on Fri May-12-06 04:52 AM by annabanana
I contacted them and told them they weren't allowed to forward my calling records to the NSA without a valid warrant, and reminded them that there were companies out there that apparently had more respect for my privacy.

I got this email this morning:

"Due to the nature of your request, we are unable to respond to your inquiry. To ensure that your inquiry is answered as quickly as possible, it has been forwarded to the Corporate Resolution Group. If you have further inquiries of this nature, you may contact them at RM-CERC1@ems.att.com

Sincerely,

AT&T Online Customer Service"

3. Oh I will...
I'm just curious how a formal notice to not divulge private records plays out here in customer service land.

4. Coming to a court near you: Class action lawsuits
Edited on Fri May-12-06 06:15 AM by AndyA
I predict the furor over private information being given out without a warrant is going to unleash a slew of class action lawsuits against the telecommunications companies that have given out information to the NSA.

Of course, Bush will ask his Republican cronies to pass legislation prohibiting these suits, but I don't think they'll be in a position to do that. With crashing poll numbers, the politicians are going to side with the public on this one, or else risk being voted out.

The wealthy are getting the tax cuts and the big bucks from this administration, but it's America's middle class, the people who Bush is trying to kill, who have the most voting power in this country.

Use it, America! Let's get these people out of office, and get some in who will DO THEIR JOB without being manipulated by the Dark Side.

5. That's what I want.
Edited on Fri May-12-06 06:24 AM by darkmaestro019
I'm not sure what I should charge---I've made anywhere from 8-ish an hour to $2 a minute in various, telephone, positions. ; )

How about you bitches hand over a dollar for every single call of mine you EVER handed ANYONE without a warrant?

It probably won't add up to much--we're both very Internet-oriented as opposed to the horrible telephone--but I want each one handed to me in cash, in person, with "I'm sorry I was a feeble, cowardly, treasonous CRIMINAL" repeated with each and every bill handed to me.

We switched to Vonage after SBC (ATT, now, and probably then...) screwed us and insisted we owed them hundreds of dollars....but we were with them for a long time before that. I haven't heard them mentioned but I'm positive they were Renfield-delighted to help Der Fuhrer.

EDIT: Actually, if it's email too, you jerks might buy me the surgery I've been wanting and pay off my sudden debts due to sudden lack of manufacturing jobs. I send and receive LOTS of email.

EDIT: If corporations are people, what would a person get as punishment for violating the fourth amendment? Every single one of them should be BANKRUPTED by the fines they pay EVERY SINGLE VICTIM. Maybe Qwest will deign to buy what's left.

9. $200 to get out of you DSL package early
for what it is worth. I got in a dispute over whose wiring was bad. I plugged in a modem a the demarcation point their stuff starts and had a problem (it was an intermittent issue) they came out when it was working and tested it. Of course it was working fine inside too, they charged me $65 for coming out and telling me the problem was in my house and ignoring what I had to tell them about plugging in outside. I was so furious I canceled and it cost me $265 plus the last bill to do so. Be warned.

14. They can't
release records without your consent, meaning they are in violation of contract. In which case you should be free to leave them, without a penalty, if they have a problem, they'll have to take it up in court.
