Rachel Maddow's NSA telephone call conspiracy theory...
Rachel just suggested that story was purposely leaked by the White House right now to bait Democrats into raising a big fuss about it, so Republicans can paint them as soft on terra in the upcoming election.
If that's true, I'm not so sure it won't backfire. What do you think?

4. No, but their defense of program as fighting terrorism has been rehearsed
They knew they could spin anti-terrorism as the justification if details of the program were made public but I don't believe they wanted publicity for this program. This Administration values secrecy as a key to power.

7. And that is why we get labled as Conspiracy Theorists...
We are always thinking about every possibility, even if unlikely... preparing for the worst because we've seen so much bad come out of repuke controlled gov't.

9. I don't think so

To much chance for a backfire. In fact I think as this sinks in Bush is going to loose more and more of base over it.

They will put up a bunch of judges that have no business being confirmed and yell about what obstructionist we are. They are going to try and find some new ways to ride out the abortion and gay issue...I think the NSA thing could do some damage to at least the abortion issue as well..it is a privacy issue .

I mean come on...why would need they need a data base of all our calls to catch terrorist? How do you plow through all that say ahh haa a terrorist? When speaking about 9/11 the terrorist spoke of a wedding..oh ya how many calls about weddings are they going to listen to? Just the ones on terror lists? then why the data base on everyone?

..Most of us I think always assumed somebody was listening ..do you really think terrorist haven't considered we are listening.

This is market research..to help sell us things like Bush, war, ect...

11. It's the "Is this a distraction?" debate, and I don't think
that the WH tries to distract from, say, Iraq by shooting itself in the OTHER foot.

12. Like the Dubai Ports deal...
I suspect that many people don't understand the implications & ramifications of the NSA data mining of the phone logs. From what I can gather, the software/technology to do this has existed for several years and the phone companies have indeed been collecting those logs. What stinks about it is that the NSA has access to those records/logs. What we have a right to know is if the NSA actually listening in on the calls or if they are only looking for calling patterns (which is still bad enough).

Regardless, as I said, enough of us don't understand all the issues here -- just as in the Dubai Ports deal, many people from both parties were up in arms about selling the ports to foreign companies when (in my mind) the real issue was how we must have tighter security at our ports to inspect all cargo entering the country.

What the hell am I trying to say? I'm not sure it's a conspiracy or if it's another Rovian tactic that has backfired. If that's the case, they are most definitely losing their edge -- for the reasons I stated above.

(In rereading this, it appears rather incoherent, but I'm going to post it anyway and go get more caffiene...)

13. You know... there comes a time that - hell be damned - you've
got to stand up for what is right.

I'm getting way too sick of our politicians, who should be our strongest voices, sitting back before offering some political posturing. Grow a spine! Stand up for what's right.
