Up to 200 feared dead in Nigeria pipeline blast
Villagers were gathered around leak to scavenge crude, TV station says

LAGOS, Nigeria - An oil pipeline exploded Friday in Nigeria and up to 200 people are feared dead, a local television station reported.

The fiery blast came as villagers flocked to a ruptured conduit in Ilado, outside the main city of Lagos, to scoop up fuel that was gushing out, according to Nigeria’s Channels Television. Up to 200 may have perished in the explosion, the station said.

People often tap into the pipelines to steal fuel, which can be ignited causing huge fireballs.

Get ready for even higher oil/gas, too.

3. I hope no innocent people were hurt.
I know they set those things up in populated areas.

But dammit, if there were no casualties, I'd say LET THE FUCKER BURN

20. They create the leaks deliberately.
They want the oil, and one way to get it is to drill into the pipeline.

It's common in some parts of the world.

15. At Halliburton, capitalizing on your loss and tragedy is what we do best.
Edited on Fri May-12-06 09:12 AM by shance
Either way, companies like Halliburton, Bechtel and others trump off of manufactured (or natural disasters which seem to be an endangered species these days) disasters and tax payers wind up making these people very wealthy.

In other words, "how" they get rich is by stealing from us and profiting off of our tragedy as citizens, in this country and in others as well.

14. What a tragedy for those people
And it's going to drive up the price of oil even more. Guess I'd better go and stock up on gas for the lawnmower, while it's still relatively cheap.
