Dixie Chicks recall 'scary' death threat had a time, had a place, had a weapon,' says member
NEW YORK (AP) -- Natalie Maines says one of the death threats she received after criticizing President Bush three years ago was "definitely scary" because the sender "had a plan."
Maines, lead singer of the Dixie Chicks, told a London audience during a March 10, 2003, concert: "Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas." The comment was made as war was looming with Iraq, and Maines later apologized for the phrasing of her remark.
In an interview on CBS' "60 Minutes" to air Sunday (7 p.m. EDT), Maines says one threat she received in the summer of 2003 was different from the others.
"It was definitely scary because it seemed so -- it wasn't just somebody wanting to write a hate letter," she says. "It was somebody who obviously thought they had a plan."
Emily Robison, who plays banjo and guitar in the Texas trio, says, "There was one specific death threat on Natalie. had a time, had a place, had a weapon. I mean, everything. ...'You will be shot dead at your show in Dallas.' "

2. These death threats tell us everything we need to know about the |
|
freepers contempt for democracy and free speech.
Fascism has come to America. Day by day, week by week, month by month for the past six years, it's been advancing on us. It's like the frog in a pot of water. Boil it very slowly and it won't notice.
I doubt if freepers would notice even as they were taking their last breath. I'd say, "fuck 'em," but we're in the same pot.

Imagine individuals making these death threats to these ladies just because they uttered basically that they don't like George W. Bush and that they are ashamed. These Bush worshipers are just psycho. I remember right after that happened, me and a group of co-workers had lunch and one of them (staunch repuke) was visibly upset that the Dixie Chicks would say such a thing about his precious GWB. He went on and said he hopes their record sales take a dive and that they break up or something.
I wonder what the a-hole is thinking about the Dixie Chicks now?

3. I got to meet them in Calgary with my g/f shortly after all this happened. |
|
We got backstage passes because they were grateful I had turned them onto a particular hate site which was targetting them in an organized fashion. Very cool girls!

4. I've really grown fond of the Chicks for not backing down |
|
...despite the threats from the mindless hateful RW trolls.
The video "Not Ready to make Nice" is so poignant - it really strikes a chord within me!
Looks like their new album is set to be released on May 23rd - I'll be buying at least one copy. I've got a lot of CD's to buy with all the brave bands who are speaking truth to power recently - and I haven't bought an album in several years. These are exciting times!

7. Thanks - I just want to provide as much $ support for these bands |
|
as I can afford. To me it's like donating money to a friendly political organization. If buying the entire album will get more money to the band, then I will do that.
