4. There is hardly a chance of a viable third party at all in the US |

First-past-the-post voting systems coupled with single-seat districts all but ensure that only two viable parties exist. The Electoral College also makes it that much more difficult. There can be several parties, but in most cases, only two parties become viable, and today that's the Democratic and Republican Parties. Wikipedia the term "Duverger's Law" to see why only two become viable in most cases.
If you want to live in a country that has three or four or more political parties sharing power but don't want to wait several lifetimes for our system to be reformed, you're probably better off moving to a country that uses proportional representation. I hate to sound harsh, but I wouldn't be saying this if I felt reforming the system on such a fundamental level was possible within just one lifetime.
By default, you are forced into the Democratic Party if you don't want to split the vote.

but I have the up-most respect for all lefties. I know from personal experience that the rift between the Greens and the Dems shall never be healed. This is fine. Let the Greens build their party. We (progressive, liberal Dems) will continue to fight for our party.
The Greens can get some nonvoters that we will never get. The Greens will bring disenfranchised voters back to the voting booth. The greens will effectively offer counter arguments to corporate policies of the dem and gop.
(I am friends with many local greens. I once tried to run on their party line (to get them to endorse my candidacy). I was running on their ten point plan. They (good friends of mine) refused to endorse my candidacy because I was not a registered Green.
I often say, "Let them build their movement, and we will build ours." I often wonder why there is such fear of the Green party? Perhaps this fear stems from lack of trust of the Dem party?

6. Now that Dems are poised to win '06, you want a third party? |
|
If Dems win in 06 it is bye bye Chairman Pat Cover-up Roberts.
So you want a third party to dilute the vote so Repugs win again?

9. No such thing as a viable third party... |
|
And I would contend forming one is not currently possible....
Besides, I am contented being a Democrat!
