2. Because we care about others as much as ourselves?
Just a thought.

4. They have to have an enemy to divide the people.
If they can keep us fighting amongst ourselves, we won't see what's really going on - we won't see that they are the ones we should be fighting, not each other.

They do the same thing with wedge issues like homosexulality and reproductive rights.

They = the Republican criminals in power

if someone accuses you of something and you don't refute it, it becomes true in the (crazy) court of public opinion.

7. The flip side is that if you focus on the charges that
Republicans are throwing at us, it leaves a lot less time to put forward our program.

Republicans don't have this problem because their program is largely built aroudn how much they hate liberals.

13. nah, you don't have to dwell... usually bogus insults, if shutdown right
out of the gate, fail to have the desired effect.

When they bring out the heathen liberal thing, you simply don't allow the statement from the get go, nor do you allow them to change the subject, which is what they are really trying to do.

Jon Stewart is a master of this. Chomsky, Ivins, Franken have all used this tactic with great success, albeit in a limited scope. The methodology needs to be brought into the national dialog, but thanks to the likes of the DINOs, and the DLC (IMO), this is not allowed. Instead, some type of milktoast, roll-over-on-yer-belly rebuttal is offered up, and the repukes walk away looking all macho and manly. It's both ludicrous and frustrating. :-(

6. Because they dare to say no to the lies.
And they dare to say yes to some of the unpopular choices offered up in this world.....abortion and gay rights.

Some people can't stand the truth, which is why this adm has gotten by with murder.

9. Because billions of dollars have been spent paint liberals as bad.
"They" do not mention that this country was founded by liberals.
The conservatives were loyal to the crown.

BTW other liberal ideas:

Interstate Highways
The G.I. Bill
Head Start
Public Education
The right to vote
Freedom of Speech
Freedom of Religion
Public Hunting & Fishing areas
Rural Electrification
The National Parks & Federal Lands
Snow Plowing of roads
Water & Sewer Systems

10. Media is a good part of it
Too often what the press and through them the public ends up with is a vague idea of people like Jesse Jackson showing up every time anything potentially racial happens and occasional bits of sense from the better ones like Conyers and Feingold get lost in the acts of others like Lieberman and Clinton. Ends up making Dem's look like opportunists rather than as a party with a number of interests.

Mostly confused impressions drawn from multiple sources, none of them covered well enough to make sense. That's my take on it at least, better media would deal with a lot of it.

12. Because conservatives hate democracy, liberty, and equality
They think they're entitled to rule with an iron fist, lord it over the masses, and make up the law as they go along.

Liberals (and moderate-liberals) get in the way of their lust for power; therefore, conservatives label liberals the "bad guys" when in reality it's the theocrats and power elite who are the bad guys.
