IT'S OFFICIAL: CHIMPY JUST LOST THE BOTTOM 29%
In his speech he didn't say he was unleashing the gaurd on the borders to militarize the border and block all access to illegal immigrants and kick illegal butt. He didn't say he was going to round up the 14+million illegal immigrants in the country and deport them. He basically TOOK KENEDY'S PROPOSAL ON IMMIGRATION REFORM (except he wasn't as strict on the corporations) AND MADE IT HIS OWN.

The REPUBS ARE GOING TO BE FURIOUS AT HIM.

I expect LOW 20%'s in the next poll as the NEW HIGH WATER MARK.

12. Kennedy should just congratulate Bush for following the Kennedy plan
The more he congratulates commander AWOL, the more the Homelander Kool Aid brigade will freak out.

7. What else could he do? He HAS to provide his real constituents
(big business) with their cheap labor, but he also needs to convince his moronic Freeper-fans that he's 'tough on brownie'. Still, that was some pretty weak symbolism. I expect even the Kool-Aid Kids could see through that shit.

Yep that was a big let down. I was hoping to find my Country again tonight. Well I'll at least save some gas come Nov when I won't have to drive to the polls.

16. I disagree, I think it'll still be around 30%....
Think about it:

He may have lost some of that loyal 29%, but he also certainly picked up some people who were on the fence about it in the process, so all and all, I think it balances out.

24. I don't agree
I think most of the people who disapprove of Bush just plain don't trust him.

If it's about not liking his policies, well, a change in policy will fix that, but once you've lost the trust of the people there's no turning back.

19. Said guard will do nothing;no police powers
Waste of resources.

Perhaps they can get an accurate count as people stream over the border? :sarcasm:

25. this is what president of border patrol union said on DRehm's show
today (he spoke by phone; I can't find his name)

he said the entire speech was bogus.....explicitly said national guard would not help, no matter how many were there, b/c they could only observe, not arrest

he also said many illegals in the interior cannot be held b/c there is no place to hold them.....therefore they are just let go into the general population

is this info correct? I know little about how the border patrol works

23. This whole immigration thing
just reeks of desperation, they've been searching searching searching for something that will resonate with their base. In a couple of weeks the populace will be on to something else and lil boots* if he's lucky will be at 18% on Labor Day.
