Poll question: When illegal immigrant-bashing flops, who will GOP scapegoat next? |
|
The Republicans have been cycling through their scapegoats faster and faster lately: gays, blacks, now Mexicans.
Racism and fear of the other has been a consistent winner for them, so they will probably keep spinning the wheel until the hit one with some staying power. The only question is whether they will return to an old stand-by or get so desperate they try some new ones.

Tonight I ask you to pass legislation to prohibit the most egregious abuses of medical research: human cloning in all its forms; creating or implanting embryos for experiments; creating human-animal hybrids; and buying, selling or patenting human embryos. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/01/31/AR2006013101468.html

Damn pointy-headed know-it-all immoral scumbags who'll run the country into the ground, won't you know it.
And they're everywhere you look. Too much education and travel to other countries, or thinking about the Bible seriously, and bingo- the smarter kids just start becoming libruls. Can't stop 'em, it's like a disease. The really bad part is, once they're libruls they have such an easy time getting laid and finding intelligent and good-looking people to talk to. It's, like, not fair to the rest of us.

9. What about liberals against illegal immigration? |
|
We've had SEVEN amnesty programs. NONE have fixed the problem. And we want #8?
This is insane!
When are we going to secure the border???? That's what I want to know. I'm tired of this broken system.

15. Like all problems, there's a couple of layers to fix. |
|
Consider it like a drive by shooting.
Of course you want to get the people who did it.
You also want to figure out how to break up their gang.
You also want to figure out why kids feel the need to join a gang in the first place, and neutralize some of those reasons.
With immigration, the GOP has done a good job of keeping all of the focus right at the border, with the exception of Bush's guest worker proposal. They do not address employers who knowingly hire illegals, like agriculture, and they do not address why people are so desperate to leave Mexico and Latin America.
It would also be nice to see Democrats bring up H-1 visas, where we bring in foreign workers and pay them their home country wages.

14. You got it all wrong, Bush didn't set out to Bash illegals. |
|
He wanted to make it legal under his "guest worker program. He was taken completely by surprise that so many people are very anti-illegal immigrant that they will not tolerate his proposal.
Bush is trying to buy hispanic votes with an 'amnesty by another name" and at the same time benefit business with an endless supply of minimum wage workers.
It blew up in his face because so many people are against his plan.
Its okay to be anti-illegal immigration. Its the same as being anti-globalization; one is exporting the job, the other is importing the low wage workers, in the end its the same. Its not about racism, its about jobs and the economy and the working people versus the corporations.

I'm sure they are going to bust that oldie but goodie out - especially if they hand down an indictment for Karl Rove this week. It's a pad response for all GOP crooks - look how well it is working for Tom Delay. :eyes:

defending drunk drivers, filing frivolous lawsuits, defending terrorists, defending rapists - has the advantage of getting rid of the few people who even understand the concept of the rule of law in large numbers - the public schools sure haven't given the average American that concept. Anyone who says Bush should be able to have any power so long as he claims it helps protect them from terrorists, which is his duty, hasn't even had to take Civics and Government 101, much less forgot about it.
