IT IS THE FRIGGIN SECOND COMING OF NOAH, SICK OF RAIN!

State of emergency across the entire state of Massachusetts. Flooding much worse in the Eastern Half. It has been raining for OVER a week, one day of sun forecast for Thursday and then ANOTHER week of rain forecast.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO DEPRESSING!

I am using my winter sun light to stop from becoming too depressed.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

:argh:

8. What about last October? Same thing - lots of rain for over 2 weeks.
Lots of flooding and evactuations.

There was also a dam (forget where) threatening to burst that they were worried about.

We went to a local fall festival that was really under attended because of the atrocious weather. They had a huge flea market/tag sale, and under one of the plastic flaps of one of the sellers, we found this really cool painting. (It would have been snatched up in two seconds in good weather, if it was out on display). We paid $12.50 for it. It is worth between 5,000 & 8,000 dollars!

Lemons into lemonade that week!

15. Hey, I feel your pain.
Here in Northern Cal we had rain for like ever. March and April, the New Year's flood. There's still standing water here in the some places. Funny though how you guys in that bastion of liberty and freedom (Boston of course) and we tree hugging hippie demo liberals have had such rainy bad weather. Tin foil hat time with people tinkering with the weather to ruin both economies.

People are losing their homes up here. There are millions of gallons of sewage in drinking water lakes. People's businesses are going bankrupt and the cities and towns are going to have to close schools just to pay for the damage.

This is not about squishy socks. Get a grip.

3. Sorry. We are so under the average (already too low) for rain.
It is worse than ever this year. The dryness causes the pollen to blow around and people are sick from their allergies. We have burn bans everywhere and people who live out in the country can't burn their garbage.

Having gone through the summer of '93 here in Missouri(500 yr flood, everything was closed down), I know exactly what you're going through.

However there is a silver lining. Here in the Midwest, on the backside of this low pressure center, we've been getting desperately needed rain after a long time drought. We're still four inches behind, but things are looking much better here.

I know, I know, scant comfort for the drowning.

10. MEANWHILE... Down Here In The Semi-Tropics... DROUGHT!

We FINALLY got some rain this AM here in my part of Florida. I timed it... from 8:33 to 8:54 AM! Where I live, which is near the Gulf... one of the driest parts of my county, the last rain we got was back in December!!

We are SOOOO DESPERATE for rain, I see brown almost EVERYWHERE!! Had this happen about 5 years ago and many people had wells go dry. Now we have had the opportunity to hook-up to city water, thank goodness!

What IS happening?? There are still some clouds out there, I can only hope!!

46. The Huron River is about to flood, if it keeps raining, others will, too
The Raisen River in Monroe is prone to flooding, as is the Clinton River in Macomb County and the Rouge River in Wayne and Oakland Counties.

When I was a young adult, I remember the Grand River flooding on the northside of downtown Grand Rapids, especially in Riverside Park. The Muskegon River flooded once through the Newaygo area, but that was different because it was late summer, and Consumer's Power had not been releasing water gradually through the Croton and Hardy dams, so it flooded over and messed up any house along the river.

It is POURING out right now.

But, here in the Berkshires (unless you are on river banks or near lakes), it is tough to flood. My sister is on a river, though. I am going to give her a call and see how her place is holding up. I am perched high on a hill, though my back yard is turning into puddles.

and see all the photos .... there's only one roadway in and out of my area now that connects with Interstate 93 - all the rest are flooded in at least one spot.

40. Poor Haverhill, Methuen - I'm in Amesbury
Thankfully most people getting by. but DAYem that Merrimack River looks angry, spilling over the roads, detours everywhere. Some evacuations from housing complexes.

People for the most part taking it in stride - takes a lot to get us hardy New Englanders down. must be all those blizzards we have to live through.

69. I just saw debris going over the falls in Methuen Square.
That is a very old dam. 1700's I believe. Man o Man!
I grew up in that area and saw some flooding but nothing like this. Let hope that the dam in Lawrence/hydro plant, stays put. If that breaks it would really be disasterous!

We had about 145 days of no rain OCT to March, then 1 maybe 2 weekends of rain none since. Would love to see the wet stuff.

20. It was like that here in Iowa during 1993 and the great flood.
It started raining as we were walking home from the July 4th firework display, and it rained steadily for 1.5 months. The yards all had standing water on them. At least, the ones that weren't flooded after the reservoir breached our local dam or the ones flooded by backed up storm drains which couldn't handle the runoff. The soil was saturated, and the river did not just cut a new channel, it scoured one. We sandbagged until our arms felt numb.

22. Sorry for all that rain. It will be around 90 degrees with sun & a light
breeze coming from the coast here in Northern California.

In a few weeks, we'll be begging for rain here, though.

:hi:

We had constant rain several weeks ago here in Northern California with mudslides and flooding. It was quite depressing.

Hope the sun comes out pretty soon!

32. The rain stopped for about 10 seconds this morning and now it's
pouring again. We've got a persistant leak around the chimney that no amount of flashing or caulking seems to cure, but I'm grateful. We live on a hill and have a cellar drain so our only damage is going to be some soggy insulation and a little drywall repair. Can I borrow your sun light????? Better yet, a Rovian indictment would definitely perk up the spirits.

from the "relative" comfort of the South Shore

42. yeah, but it only happens...
... every 70 years or so. It's nature's way of cleaning house.
Taking back what is rightfully hers.

I'm tired of the rain too, and having to put a tarp over my hardtop convertable. :grr:
But it's better than having a wet driver's seat! :)

It will stop raining tomorrow and then only a little Wed. thru Fri.

Summer is really on the way! Really!! :)

Here - In case you forgot what a sunny day in Gloucester looks like! :)

Massachusetts Flooding: Town-By-Town Glance

POSTED: 2:29 pm EDT May 16, 2006
UPDATED: 2:50 pm EDT May 16, 2006

Here is a brief look at the flooding in northeastern Massachusetts.

AMESBURY:
The Coast Guard sent a helicopter to search the Merrimack after docks from a marina broke loose
in Amesbury on Monday afternoon and struck the downstream docks of a second marina where people
were standing. There were initial concerns that one or two people might have gone into the water,
but everyone was later accounted for.

Be safe!

OOPS!! Sorry. Wrong story.... But here's a video of the flooding in Amesbury, MA.

81. We live in Ohio and ALWAYS have a spare Ark ready to go
Edited on Tue May-16-06 04:20 PM by mtnester
I mean, if you live in a state where you have seen rain, hail, thunder/lightning, tornado, snow and rainbows with temperatures going from 80 degrees to 30 degrees, in JANUARY even, all within 60 minutes, you just HAVE to have a spare Ark laying around, just in case.

Let me tell you about 3 inches of hail covering the ground last year, the day before Memorial Day...my planted containers which I had worked my ASS off on were destroyed in about 15 seconds. I had to go uncover hostas before they froze to death. I took pictures and have several bags o' hail still in my freezer.

90. I saved it in case we had roof damage bad enough to warrant
an insurance claim...you should have SEEN the grit that came off the shingles.

And you know how freezers are, bottomless pits of things you may never use, but hate to throw away.

Yeah, midwest weather is crazy.
