Global Warming.. faster than anyone said it would?
Edited on Fri May-19-06 07:43 PM by oscar111
i keep seeing headlines like

record heat

hottest on record

record tornado season, hurr. season

Is any mainstream scientist now saying GWarming is happening faster than any predictions said?

Predictions were, like two degrees in fifty years.

And what did we do about it? Make gigantic SUV's.

2. yeah, I noticed that too
The pace at which stories are coming out in recent months seems alarming.

I don't know enough to say that this is evidence of a faster pace of problems being detected, or simply greater media coverage.

However, there was a story recently that even the Queen of England seems to be playing a role in "sounding the alarm".

With Bushco running things, that's not making me feel any better in the face of all these events.

3. Yes, there are scientists who have said this and backed it up
with some pretty alarming data. I heard a program about the accelerated rate of melting of the Greenland Iceberg (?) and it was very scary. The scientist was quite precise and confident in his presentation of the data. He had NO doubts.

4. Fractions of a degree have a ripple effect.
The smallest change can have a significant impoact on weather patterns. Study Chaos Theory

5. You don't have to look too far to find the stories on that question.

Here's one excerpt from late last year:
The new study shows the ocean west of the Antarctic Peninsula has warmed by more than a degree since the 1960s - confounding computer models and experts who believed that a combination of ice, winds and currents would keep the water cool and shield fragile marine creatures from the effects of climate change. This is the first evidence that the key Southern Ocean is getting warmer: a finding with potentially severe implications for wildlife.

Lloyd Peck, a marine biologist with the British Antarctic Survey, said: "The sea temperature is going up in a way that wasn't predicted and this makes me more worried for the marine animals. The evidence we've got and the models we've been looking at said sea temperature was not likely to change much in the Antarctic. A one degree increase puts us into the region where the animals are pushed to one end of their biological, physiological and ecological capabilities."
